Default Cale Morton AFL 2007 Draft Talk

Name: Cale Morton
Height: 192
Weight: 75
State: Western Australia
Club(s): Claremont

Where he starts his AFL career, and where he plays for the majority of his career, could be very different. Morton could begin on a wing next season with the idea that he would become a centre half forward a few years down the track. Morton has also shown he is capable in nearly any spot in the back line, he could play a role like Milburn or Sam Fisher do and play on a tall forward if that is needed or play as a loose defender and provide a lot of rebound from the back.

Could the Eagles be on the hunt? Think this might be a BIG target for them.

I'm a fan of Cale, very versatile player - has a good combination of footy smarts and athleticism. I envisage him playing on the wing at AFL (similar to role to Pendlebury), but he's rake thin, so I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't play at all next year.

I haven't heard anything to suggest WC will go for him apart from the fact his brother plays for us. We drafted tall last year going, and got 3/4 were tall utility types in MacKenzie, Schofield and Thomson (you could also class Brown as utility if you want, which would make it 4/4), so chances are we'll go for more smaller/medium players as that seems to be where this drafts talent is stacked - but WC generally go for the best available/rather than needs (most notably evidenced by choosing Judd over Polak in 2001) so it will be interesting to see what the recruiters do if we do get hold of a top 3 pick or two.

If WCE get pick 3 from carlton then theyd be looking closely at getting morton.

If Richmond get Mitch Morton from WCE as is expected, then it might mean we get Cale with pick 2, rather than the expected Cotchin...both would be great pick ups either way i think.
