Default Cotchin vs Morton

Brades and I have already had this discussion, and was wondering what everyone else thinks:
Should Richmond take:
Cotchin, the best player, even though hes a midfielder, and Richmonds midfield is pretty good,
or,
Morton, a tall Winger/Half back, who isnt quite as good as Cotchin, but, because it seems that Richmonds HB line aint that good. (Although i rate it fairly highly, esecially with Mcmahon)

Cotchin is the better midfielder.
Morton is the better overall player.

Well this is not clear. Many people are saying this draft is top heavy.

I'm saying that in 2007 the one clear thing about this draft is ... nothing is clear. The media will have you believe is all so easy. However, there is a big difference between having potential and realising your potential.

I have a feeling we will look back on this draft in 3-4 years and have more than our fair share of surprises. The value of hindsight.

I think this is a classic smokey draft where a "Adam Goodes, James Hird or Clint Bartram" type pick may develop. IMHO this draft favours the "smart" clubs.

I think you may well be right TF. There are more than a few 'project' players types, that don't standout at present with their footballing ability, but given the right development, coaching, exposure etc. could well turn out to be stars. I guess we'll have to wait for the years to pass to best judge.

With regards to Cotchin and Morton, 2 very different players. I've seen a lot of Morton and he could really be anything, it depends on how the club chooses to develop him, although long term a tall midfield/utility (Cornes/Kouta/Embley) role probably will be the likely destination, given his endurance capabilities and disposal by foot. From what I've seen of Cotchin, he appears to be a dynamic HFF at present, that should (is projected to) develop into a midfielder, similar to the path that GAJ followed. IMO, Masten is the safest option with regards to a developing midfielder and is the best clearance player in the draft ATM, however if Cotchin develops as predicted he will be extremely valuable as a goal kicking midfielder that can burst clear of packs (of course there's always the chance he doesn't develop into that i.e. Tambling).
