I'm sure Port came in with the expectation/hope of grabbing Lobbe, Motlop and Westhoff. Farmer slipped down quite a bit and sounds good. Overall, i'm extremely happy that Port were confident in who they take and got what we wanted. I would have been a bit unsteady if we had just taken what was considered the best tall available. We may have overpaid for Lobbe but it shows we clearly rate him, and weren't willing to take the chance of losing him before our next pick.

2 tall forwards, one flashy midfielders and a tough midfielder/back. That's what we needed. Now we just need to get rid of Lonie to free up a PSD selection

3 - C.Masten (WA) - As I've said before happy with him if Cotchin wasn't available (although I would've preferred Morton, which was never going to happen). While he may not turn out to be an absolute superstar, it's a safe pick and he's currently the best clearance midfielder in the draft.

13 - B.Ebert (SA) - Didn't think he'd last past 10. Was the best available at pick 13. Good get. We have a good record with SA kids, so hopefully no 'go back home' dramas in the future.

20 - T.Notte (WA) - Unusual selection given how many tall forwards on WC list (Lynch, Hansen, Staker, Brown, C.Jones, Kennedy). Very talented and probably has the greatest upside of anyone in this draft, but just as easily could never make it due to his lack of weight (then again Westhoff did alright last year, who he does remind me a bit of...).

22 - S.Selwood (VC) - Another hard at it, inside midfield option and again a safe pick. Stockier than Adam, though he could play similar roles to him. Solid get at pick 22.

Overall I'm pleased with the effort, WC had 4 picks in the top 25 so they should've done a good job and although it's too early to make any definite judgements, so far it appears like they did.

"Tough" day at the draft day for the Dees. As a football club we place great faith in Craig Cameron ability to get it right. Dont think he has let us down.

Morton, Grimes & Maric is an outstanding result for picks 4,14 & 21

Chaney & McNamara are CAC smokies.

It's still a great achievement winning a medal over last years no.1 draft pick Bryce Gibbs, but I do know where you're coming from. Myers is my store....

After that series, Gibbs was said to have been robbed of that medal anyway and that he was head and shoulders above any Aussie player.. Also, a lot of the top draft picks like Selwood werent there either

Players such as David Neitz, Joel Corey & Mark McVeigh have previously won the Ron Barassi Medal, so it has been won by great players, and doesn't really matter if Bryce Gibbs was thought to have been robbed, the fact is Myers won the medal. This is an article from one of the test matches :- RTÉ Sport: Second draw in U-17 international rules This is a part from it - "It was a super advertisement for International Rules football with outstanding tackling, dodging and courage, and neither side willing to give an inch. Defender David Myers and midfielders Bryce Gibbs and Cyril Rioli entertained the crowd with their skill."
Looking forwad to seeing him in action next year !!

I think the only problem is since that series he has shot up and lost some speed, because he has become taller. He is quite "slow" for a midfielder and you will need to get some speed worked onto him otherwise he is just the rebounding HBF. Hopefully he wants to come home in 2 years

He isn't one of the fastest midfielders going around, but he certainly isn't slow, showed by his 3.01s score in the 20m sprint. And what I had forgotten to mention before, there was some pretty good players in the series such as Bryce Gibbs (Mentioned before), Cyril Rioli, Jarrad Grant, James Sellar, Tom Hawkins, Chris Masten & Craig Bird. Hopefully he loves our state, and he is apparently overwhelmed by coming to our club, since it is so great, and apparently is more than ready to get straight back into training.

lol last time I checked guys like Hawkins, Sellar and Grant would struggle in that. I mean since when do we actually use ruckmen in that international series?

He won't love your state, but he wont mind playing there thats about it. No one can love Victoria.. its just.. victoria.

ps: I wouldn't take the Sprint as a great guide and 3.01 is slower than Kruezer.

Not having a crack at you or Freo just would like your thoughts on this as i would ask the same Q to any club that would pick him(Johnson) up.
