Indeed, but obviously the positives massively outweighed the negatives compared to these guys.

I was suprised that no one picked up Bongetti.
Hes a bit slow, i think, but even so- he killed em' in the TAC cup this year. He kicked 23 more goals than the second highest goalscorer.

And also slightly suprised no one grabbbed Broc Mcauley.
From what RR said, and then the draft camp figuers, i thought hed be a late pick up...

PSD maybe, or Rookie if he's still eligible.

he kicked 4 goals from the wing, and was voted best on ground. yes, he's a bit slow for a modern day footballer, but he's still good. and he's got some height and stength about him. he would've made a decent HFF. can't believe he didn't get picked up.

there is a growing trend that players are purely being drafted on height/athleticism rather than ability.

ps. i was really pleased to see Mark Johnson get to Freo. it reminds me of when Hardwick went to Port Adel, and they should do well with him.
Ask Thomas Rischbieth whether athleticism gets you drafted high, it doesn't. He actually dropped lower than expected because of lack of football smarts and skills. Much lower, and he got delisted as a rookie after a year.

Hardwick was still playing very good football when he went to us and he was younger too. Oh and Port had potential to win a premiership.

With what Brades said i think Gourdis had an attitude problem

Gourdis doesn't have an attitude problem, my guess as to why he was overlooked is due to the way he plays and his kicking. Very unselfish player, will lead up to the wing to get the ball a lot (like Ash Hansen and Chris Tarrant) and if he does get the ball in range will look to lay it off rather than back himself to kick the goal, has also mucked around with his kicking style (even changed his preferred foot) and tends to get the yips in front of goal a lot. It's possible that clubs want a KPP forward who is a better kick at goal and more willing to back themselves to kick the goals. Still surprises me a lot he wasn't picked up given that someone like Tom Williams was taken at pick 6 in 2005 who's footballing ability was not as great as Gourdis, but it did seem that most clubs shyed away from the raw 'athlete' type this year. Anyway, at the very least he'll definitely be rookie'd.

Some others that missed out:

A.Joseph (AA U18 - 2nd biggest surprise after Gourdis for me)
C.Gartlett
T.Dulic
J.Smouha
H.Sandilands
A.Renton
W.Sullivan

Most of them were smokies though...

I guess we saw the narrowness in this years talent in that a lot of mature/recycled players went.

Oh yeah, forgot about Joseph.
In the rookie draft, I'd like 1 of these players :- Gourdis, Kangars, Joseph, Bowden, Smouha, McGinnity, Arrowsmith or Collard.

Jaye Bowden is another one who missed out on getting drafted. He kicked 5 goals in one of the matches in the championships, and he should be heavily considered to get picked up in the rookie draft. I'll add him to my list above.

I'll go with Brades...

I thought there would be a few clubs looking for an overweight full forward .. Obviously not
