Those names aren't that surprising, they all have various faults that will see them corrected on a rookie list.

yeah Gourdis. how did he get overlooked ?

even though i'd never heard of him, a few phantoms had him in the 1st round.

Apparently his speed was the question like Arrowsmith and no one wanted to take a gamble. Speed is not something you can just gain, its usually genetic.

Arrowsmith in another i've seen play (live) in this year's TAC Cup Grand Final between Calder Cannons and Murray Bushrangers.
he kicked 4 goals from the wing, and was voted best on ground. yes, he's a bit slow for a modern day footballer, but he's still good. and he's got some height and stength about him. he would've made a decent HFF. can't believe he didn't get picked up.

there is a growing trend that players are purely being drafted on height/athleticism rather than ability.

ps. i was really pleased to see Mark Johnson get to Freo. it reminds me of when Hardwick went to Port Adel, and they should do well with him.

I think you'll find thats a load of rubbish Tippaz. The guy is good, but look at least year. Dean Kelly kicks 6 goals in the TAC Cup GF and did not get drafted or Rookie drafted (by Freo who he was training with) and is struggling at Port Melbourne. Kicking that many in a GF doesnt mean he is a great player with great ability.

He recorded the fastest 20m sprint at the draft camp this year with a 2.83s score.

Ok maybe it wasn't that, soemthing was questionable about all of those players. Injuries, Speed, endurance.. They all have question marks and no one wanted to take a gamble.

I get your point, but most kids picked up in the draft these days have question marks over their head I wrecken. Some examples are :- Chris Masten (OP), Callan Ward (School Commitments), Lachie Henderson (Has had a number of injuries), and even Chris Judd in his draft.
