i'm planning on writing up a "hot prospects guide for 2008" which will be released during the NAB Cup.

but if anyone has got some useful tips, we'd love to hear about it.
tell us... who's training well? who might step up this year? who might move into the midfield?
by the way, cool smilies

everybody already knows that judd smashed the carlton record for princess park but for essendon brent stanton apparently did it about 10 seconds slower than judd..which is still pretty quick so stanton seems fit......mcphee smashed his record as well, and a couple of the kids jetta and reimers have sliced like a minute of their best times so could be potential bench fodder

For WC, Mitch Brown has been the star of the off-season - massive amount of hype surrounding him. Brad Ebert and Chris Masten (who doesn't look hindered by his OP) are also training very well too and if all goes to plan both could debut early. As for the others, Hurn (and Butler - not 100% sure how he's going though) should also make big impressions next year and I'm also tipping J-Mac (who's bulked up a fair bit) to break through and become a regular, as well as the man with the wackiest surname in the AFL (Spangher - a 'Scarlett' like defender) to get a gig - might be a good pick up for the backs bench.

From Richmond, apparently Foley and Deledio are ripping it up for the obvoius ones, but Kel Moore and Tambling are goin pretty well too.

Also Coughlan has been coming along nicely too...so he could be good value for the bench...

Chris Masten could be in a spot of bother due to an alleged criminal charge during the Australia Day long-weekend(not to sure).....Not something the club needs so lets hope its nothing.Having said that about Masten he looks the goods and so does SA recruit Brad Ebert(loads of talent).
Hopefully Butler gets an injury free pre-season and gets the oppotunity to showcase his true worth and repays the club for having faith in him(Big season a must for Butler if fit).
Hurn was looking great a training and im predicting he will bust a few packs open this season......

Thats it so far.

Kreuzer for 1 is likely to play alot of footy this year unlike past KPP through Carlton's lack of depth in the ruck and up forward behind Fev now Waite's down back.

With Brisbane trading Woods who was one of their 1st choice ruckman with Charman, it has to be expected that Leunberger gets a decent crack this year and given the kids comparisons to Cox he should be worth a punt.

With Cousins and Judd gone this year could either go 2 ways for Daniel Kerr, he becomes a bonafide superstar and takes the reigns at the club or he gets bogged down in tags and struggles. Given he had back2back top 3 finishes in the brownlow and was suspended both times i'm assuming he will handle the pressure and could be the number 1 mid this year. Whilst on West Coast they will need replacements for their departing stars and Masten looks a gimme for early game time.

At Hawthorn Roughead stepped out of Buddys shadow late in the year and could be ready to stamp his mark on the league.

With McPhee moving forward to the flank or wing he may be in a position to score more points than normal and he has regularly been a solid scorer. This also opens up a position for another defender and young Myers might get some time to shine early on depending on where Nash and Welsh play. Also expect Gumbleton to get more minutes with Knights likely to have seen the opportunities Sheedy gave Johns and perhaps not be willing to give him many more.

With Judd and Stevens at Carlton Murphy is not going to get anywhere near the attention he copped last year and was showing great promise early til the hard tags hit him.

last tip is for the second year players the guys like Leunberger and Petterd that got some time last year showed some class and are likely to get more of a go of it now.

I would think Hawkins would have to be a very likely prospect who will play 80-90% of matches this season, especially since Ablett has retired. I would expect good returns seeing he will only have bulked up further, and the abundance of ball supply the Geelong midfield should supply him.

Tredrea is said to be fit and completed pre-season successfully which may tempting.

I am not expecting much from the Dees this year (bottom 4 finish), so I expect that much of their games will be played in their back half. Bailey has tipped Yze may return to that position rather than play forward, so he could be good value racking up cheeap possessions accross that line. Cale Morton is also tipped to float accross that h/b line, so he could be real value a draftee. Meeson is said to have a big engine as a ruckman, and with White now in the later stages of his career, you could do worse than him filling one of the ruck emergencies.

Prismall from the Cats played v.well against the Dees, but I think opportunities in the Cat midfield will be limiting unless they are injury struck.

Jonathan Brown has completed his first 'full' pre-season since joining the club. Probably enough said, although I would expect him to be kept in cotton wool for the pre-season.

Dyson from Essendon is said to have pulled the finger out and trained the house down under the new coach. Certainly a position there for him in the dons midfield if he puts his hand up. running 'prinny' laps in very comparible times to judd.

Speaking of Judd, down at Carlton I would think that Stevens will provide excellent value given he didn't play last season. Also with a very respectible midfield rotation, I expect fev may be in for a big season, especially if the likes of Judd, and a freed up Murphy deliver the ball to him. Also expect gibbs to get much better and live up to the hype at the start of last season.
