Ha ha, hey guys joining your forum thingmajig.
Won't join your league, in my own already.
Thought i might bounce around a couple of strategies on ya.

I have
BACKS: L.Gilbee, J.Sinclair, C.Jones, N.Bock, A.Raines, G.Birchall, J.Patful. (X.Ellis, M.Thorp)
CTRS: A.Goodes, S.Mitchell, P.Hasleby, C.Fletcher, M.Rischitelli, B.Gibbs
(J.Selwood, L.Thomas)
RUCKS: A.Sandilands, L.Darcy (B.Renouf, J.Griffen)
FWDS: J.Brown, B.Hall, M.Pavlich, A.Monfries, N.G.Brown, J.Kosichitzke, A.Edwards (M.Campbell, T.Hawkins)

oh and i have $321600 left over.
I figure having a 1st year or super cheap option in each position on the ground gives
me value for my bench, cause the better of three "stars to be" will contribute to my score, rather then being locked on my bench. I found last year, that the value in losing a trade, for trading a player who'd only gone up 1 or 2 hundred thousand just wasn't there.

I haven't gone for many Alist players, but i do have some. I think this gives me flexibility as these are the players that could drop 40/50 000 per game after round three if they start off the year slow (ie averaging 100)
So, while i have big J.Brown, i see him possibly losing a lot before the private leagues kick in, and i'm all about winning that, plus maybe a weekly prize if i get super lucky.
If he does look like losing heaps, after round 2 say, and Judd is starring, i can make my two trades, pre value change, and then after round 3, trade, say a chad fletcher, who would surely have to go up, for dalsanto/burgoyne etc if they go down and one of my solid
midfielders on the rise (hence the value of money in the bank)

My questions are;
Your thoughts on all this?
And C.Fletcher + Hasleby, or other similarly priced CTRS such as L.Ball and R.griffen.
Oh, and how is Patfuls knee?

In a league with other guns and don't want to share it with them so you can get the edge if the strategy's good?

Probably one of those chances we need to take if we're not just going to be any run of the mill team.

2 problems with getting extra rookies.

1. If none of the rookies in a position do ok you're stuck with too much deadwood and it'll cost you trades you would rather not have to make.
2. It'll make it a lot more difficult to bridge the $ gap between these guys and the guns you want to trade in next year. Unless the rookies play like Murphy, Symes etc you'll only be upgrading to an average player. It'll cost you extra trades.

Hey cheers for the reply,
Spot on about my tactics.
I had to think heaps about posting that team here, cause i reckon it'll be right up there.
I figure my playing rookies are safe, if you have a look at them, they should all play 15 or so games at least, except for backs and rucks maybe, and i'm just going to have to wear that/hope ellis and renouf, and to a lesser extent, thorp and griffen play whenever someone in my team gets dropped.

Also, i figure to trade in pairs, doesn't seem to make sense to do single trades, not much value in it. Therefore, when trading, i always trade a markedly improved rookie, ie Murphy the week before he got injured, and another mid range player, for a star, or close to it, and a rookie two games in and starring, and therfore about to jump in price.
I think new players are going to be even more important this year. So many teams have gone heavily on youth, and teams are really blooding young players compared to other seasons. This has two effects, rookies will be played, but a lot of them will be played, so they might not play each week....

Can't wait for the season to start!
