Van Berlo is not that good in my opinion after watching him all the time for Adelaide.

thoughts on van berlo anyone?
I may well go with Kosi and Hudson as my starting rucks (I'm pretty sure we only need 4 rucks instead of 6 now). It depends on how the rest of my team looks when DT opens.
Whyman looks pretty good. I might pick him if it looks like he'll play a lot.

Moloney and Van Berlo aren't being considered at this stage but you never know if they dominate in the next couple of weeks.

g'day peterfitz - good to see you back again.

anyone got the afl prospectus yet?

looks like that change to 6 playing midfielders and 2 playing rucks is going ahead.

also, new rumour that 1st year draft picks will be more than 66k.
76, 89, ?
dunno how much though.

Cheers Viddle, good to see the site up again.

I heard the same rumour about the new draft picks too. Interesting to see if that goes ahead. Atleast it will help stop every DT from being the same if it happens.

Yeah, that'd be right, wouldn't it?

Changing the rules every year (just like the AFL rulebook) !!

That 'ruck' change sounds like a big one. I don't think Dean Cox will like being the 'most bought player', and pretty much a must-have.
I wouldn't be too concerned with the 1st year pricings. My tactics last year cost me big time... Fergus Watts ... (cough, cough). This time, i am picking my reserve players FIRST, and i will not skimp on 66k min. wage players just for the sake of improving my starting 22. If Gibbs and Selwood are slightly above the norm, i will find the money.

I've had Moloney for the past two years. I'd feel a bit silly if he took of this year and I didn't pick him.

Thought i'd give a bit of a guide for the Port players
Where the value is:
P.Burgoyne - I'm not actually sure how much he is worth. Only played 10 games last year and looks fit for '07. Will play alot in the midfield.
Dean Brogan - Expect Lade to go forward more with a whole in the FF position. Dean will probably play more than half the time in the ruck, and he apparently had a big pre season and is now a changed man.
Alipate Carlile - If Chad plays in the midfield/forward line then Port have 3 choices for the third tall defender. Willits, Thurstans or Carlile. Considering Thurstans and Willits have never been tried down back for Port, expect Carlile to get given a go. Had a good debut season last year for South Adelaide but only played one game for Port. Though don't expect him to be a huge stat getter just yet. Comparable to Wakelin.
Logan - Played a handful of games last season and held his spot in the team. Good, hard midfielder player who gets alot of tackles. Expect him to play most of the season.
David Rodan - Choco loves playing the players he gives second chances. Look at Motlop, he only dropped him when he had no other choice and still had faith after that. Has had a good pre season and could be a great find
Travis Boak - Ports first pick in the draft. Williams put him in the 'probables' team for one of Ports practice matches but he was left out of the first round NAB side. He should get games towards the end of the season but expect him to play this week.

Risks
Toby Thurstans - Word is that Port will play him in defense this week. Toby plays down back for Sturt, which is where he plays most of his football these days. Who knows, he could be the next Scott Stevens. But I doubt it
Warren Tredrea - We all know what he is capable of but that knee of his still doesn't look right. Could be back for round 1 though
Motlop - Just when he started to show something he got shoulder surgery towards the end of '06. He will be given a chance this year.

No value here:
Symes - Big year last year, probably won't improve that much stats wise
Wilson, Wakelin - Not the types to go well in DT
White - Williams will give up on him this year

The rest are not worth mentioning. S.Burgoyne, K.Cornes and Lade will have good years but won't be cheap.

Who i'll be taking from Port
K.Cornes as captain(Though depends on price)
Boak as second reserve midfielder
Rodan if he's listed as a forward

And i'll have to wait to see on Tredrea

K.Cornes is likely to be in my team too.

I picked Rodan at around $100k last year but he was a disaster! He'll be very cheap again this year and he'll probably do much better but 'once bitten..."

I see alot rating Moloney from Melbourne yet I think their big improver will be Brock McLean. This year he is due to step up into the elite level IMO and given the fact he will most likely start @ under 300K will be a midfield bargain!
