Research!! The starting team is the key to doing well in this game.
...Take a good look at the
draftees and who is likely to play regularly for their teams and who is likely to find a lot of the ball.
...Take a look at who's
retiring/injured long term for teams and
which players will get more opportunity to score more due to these circumstances.
...See if you can find players who were
given opportunities late in the previous season and scored better after this. They could be in for a big season if they get the same opportunity again.
...When choosing your
guns try to choose players who get
consistently high scores with very few bad weeks. You can be sure that at some stage in the season a lot of inconsistent players that have high averages will come down to a bargain price and then you can add them to your team.
...Try to have at least
2 gun midfielders to give you good captain choices every week
...Pick
Dean Cox!!!
...Look for players who's price is much lower than it should be because of
injury the year before.
...Look for players who played
well below their best the year before and pick them if you think they will bounce back strong.
But be careful of players in their late 20's or older who's averages were lower than the year before. It's unlikely they'll go anywhere but down. If they have a good (no, make that excellent) preseason they might be worth considering though.
Pay close attention to the Pre-season especially when considering injury returns, players who you're hoping will get new opportunities, and rookies.
Basically you want players who will score higher than they did the previous year. If you can pick a majority of players who do this you're half way there
