The few silly mistakes I think I made were ( in no particular order) 1.Stocking Jack Watts ( undersized and was never going to get a game) This year I am looking to only keep 2 1st year DPs who will hopefully get lots of game time and are reasonably well built 2. Being a Saints supporter having to many saints players. I am capping it at 6 this year. 3. Trading prior to round 5. 4. Not enough research and I didnt pay any attention to the pre season 5 Trading once or twice after a couple too many drinks. 6. Having faith in perpetual underperformers. This year I have no room for old timers who might make a comeback. i am going to try and pick someone on the up with the right pre season, in a reasonable team and has consistently ok form. Thats all for now but I am sure there will be more things learnt this year!! Cheers Andolate |

This is a great list and well worth a post all of its own ...
1/ Picking first year players is always a risk - unless you fully research their pre-seasons ... you might have been one year early on Watts. 2/ Top quality point. 3/ Trades are worth gold ... a good quality trading strategy should be based around your goals. 4/ Critical. 5/ Hahaha .. has killed many a teams chances. 6/ Sounds like good solid advice.

Until Grand Final day at least, when you're celebrating the Hawk's 11th Premiership. lol
Personally, I reckon the hardest one is resisting the urge to trade early.

I also made obvious choices & died with injuries galore. Played twice with 15 players. Dumped Watts, Presti, whilst Hille, Harvey, Ziebell,& others were injured. Had 5 who never played a game but Broughton ( freo ) was a bonus. Plodded all year but knocked off the undefeated leader of our group in the second finals round You can never spend too much on the centre group.

Oh yes you can! When its at the expense of the rest of your team. There is one common element to all very good sides ... a good backline. You have far more margin for error in your mids ... In relative terms its far easier to construct a competitive mid-field, simply because you have far more options available in start-up strategy, entry & exit strategy. In recent years the defender selections has set teams apart. Plus if the demise of Cox continues the ruck selection will become even more important.

My Silly Mistakes
I averaged near 2200 for most of my first year of SC Till round 14........Finished up 1980 1.Making trades for a specific game to beat a friend or family member when I could of just copped the loss by accepting the donut and saved a trade. 2.Making early trades. This was partly because my uncle help me set up my team and I didnt know anything about Supercoach it was his suggestion to try it out (Bad mistake I am totaly addicted) So I just named my favorite players with some suggestions from him. So I made a lot of early trades just getting my initial team right whilst learning about SC and who I shouldnt have picked first up.As mentioned above I had heaps of 1 team i.e Hawks players. 3.Sideways upgrade trades 4.Over analyzing whilst under the influence of alcohol the night before lockout 5.Reffering to No 2. Chasing the better player all the time without waiting. I lost a game to my Aunty we have a huge rivalry her being a Cats Supporter. So the week before the game I decided to trade roughy out and bring Krakouer in.Roughy was just going average not bad and Krakouer had had just 1 or 2 good previous weeks. It was the weekend roughy got 170 something and Krakouer got about 70 and she beat me by 14 points... Working on different strategies this year big time. By about round 18 I was playing with 17 or 18 guys on the feild obviously no emergs. It just got worse after that.. LOL Cheers
