Default Upgrading Strategy

How's everyone going now that we are into the season a bit? I'm sitting on 5-1 and 3rd on my ladder with the aim to win my league overall.

Just got a question regarding the strategy of upgrading cash cows to premium keepers.

How is it that people have enough money to upgrade the cashcow to a keeper and continually do this with other players throughout the season? Heres the picture, i have 15 trades, $57K in the bank and looking to make some upgrades.

I am looking at upgrading Van Berlo or Coughlan to Goodes which needs a bit of coin. With only 59K in the bank i can't achieve this. Now im assuming that people face this as well, how do you free cash? Do you sell the cash cow down to a NEW cash cow or what?

Example - i was thinking of selling N.Krakour who seems to have peaked down to someone such as McGylnn or someone else to free up cash. Is this the correct strategy?

Usually you would use x2 trades to upgrade to a premium - and to ensure there's still a little coin in the piggy bank.

1 to trade a cash cow down to another promising rookie (they say around 7 rounds is the peak for a cow) and the second to use the cash to trade in a premium or keeper for another player (either under performing, or injured etc)

It also depends on who much cash you have spare and how much the cash cow & premium is worth.
You may get away with the single trade sometimes.

I bought Beams when he was cheap and consider him sellable now. I am thinking about a risky trade of Beams for Muston. This will leave me with a healthy bank balance but only 11 trades left for the year.
My only worry is if he breaks down or doesn't get more game time. If he performs over the next month like he has in 1 game, I might cash him in and buy a premium player then.

clackerz, would you consider trading beams for muston?

I am enjoying the discussion and will give you my two bobs worth. It seems the cash cow theory is good but you really use 2 trades each time you upgrade, so trade wisely! My friend did same last week and uptraded to Neon Leon who put in a shocker! Thats the luck I guess........

Really you have missed your chance with Muston if you havn't already traded him in. He went up 90k this week so I would set your sights on another 2 game player. There a still a few to choose from. Remember, teams like Hawthorn have a lot of injured players to come back so game time for these players will be limited. Look for freo, north type players. Last week I traded Beams for Muston and have the cash to upgrade Ziebell to Franklin maybe this week.

Cheers Carl. I traded Beams for Muston and I have also picked up Grima over the last couple of weeks.
I am having a good run with the rookies and bought Drummond. DOH! the most expensive 3 points you could buy I think.

The big question is what the h3ll do i do with Van Berlo?!? His breaking my peanuts, his supposed to be a premium keeper but he is yet to break out and his price has fallen something like 70K. Ugh.

I have pretty much been doing the same once, cash cows hit their optimum price, I trade them out for a cheaper option. Eg. Coughlan went out for Muston.
