I don't think that fans will follow the player, I think loyal fans stick with their clubs through the tough times, so no it won't be like that at all. And yes, in 3-4 years, Geelong may not be as strong as it is now, however it will still be top 8 if not 4 you would think. However after 3 years, players from many clubs may see GC as a better chance of attaining a premiership than their own clubs and thats the choice they have to make. Don't be surprised if players have already started making deals with GC. GC has the money to lure players from their clubs.

i reckon fringe players in teams with good depth will be targeted, thorp and dowler from hawks, a brownlow medalist would look good on the books so maybe cooney. and maybe target kreuzer and cotchin cos there best mates. who wouldnt wanna play in a team with their best mate

There are a lot of players who would look good in the squad but it is very unlikely that these guns will leave their respective clubs. They want Riewoldt but realistically he is more likely to win a premiership at St. Kilda. This is the major reason that players will stay at their club. The Gold Coast Side could end up being this century's University.
Saying this they are likely to make me look like an idiot. Just keep an eye on players who's contracts expire at the end of the next couple of years. Also is there a possibility of the return of Nick Davis? |

Gold Coast will seriously look at each and every superstar in the comp however I highly doubt they will land anyone "marquee" so to speak. I think the best they will get is something like us with Prismall last year, a very solid player and if fit potentially Essendons best midfielder but has been blocked for opportunities behind the awesome group that Geelong already assembled and his inablity to stamp himself in another position.
Guys that spring to mind are Seaby, Polo, Simmonds, Jones, J.Riewoldt, Schulz, Houli, Lonergan, Travis Johnstone if he gets pushed out of Brisbanes midfield. These are the players not getting that AFL experince yet will believe they should be. The only "marquee" player I feel that may consider heading to the Coast is Kerr, considering he's done it all at West Coast and it will be a long time before they are a chance again. Other than that they might find a couple of washed up guys who move to try and save their career like Lucas and Rocca who may have made it to Gold Coast if they were coming next year instead of 2011. |

I think they may get 1 'superstar' - I've heard Chad Cornes is VERY keen.
IMO they'll recruit/attract mostly: > Queensland AFL players interested in returning home > Brisbane Lions players not getting enough opportunities and/or looking for greater pay checks that still want to stay in Queensland > U25 fringe players from other clubs that are performing well at state league level but not getting/unlikely to get consistent games at AFL level with their current clubs i.e. Seaby, Houlihan, Hansen, Staker and Campbell, Murphy > U25 high draft picks/talented junior players that haven't kicked on at AFL level yet for whatever reason i.e Tambling, J-ON, Laycock, Tenace, Muston, Sellar, Thorp, Reid, Armitage, O'Keefe, Drum etc. - everyone develops at different rates and more opportuinites/responsibilities, a change of environment, lifestyle, new coaches and gameplans may be what it takes for these to turn things around. ALI - disagree on Kerr - West Coast (like Melbourne) have invested heavily in the draft over the past 2 years (7 picks inside the top 25 over 2007 and 2008 plus Kennedy) and will reap rewards because of it in the coming years - it's just a matter of getting games/experience into the players they've drafted. Kerr's on a good sum at West Coast and will be in a premiership contending team sooner than he would be at Gold Coast.

Put down names. I'd go for Tippett & Mumford as they are young. Mumford is relegated to third string ruck & big good men are like DIAMONDS. Tippett might go home.PUT names on paper.

IMO the Gold Coast will get either Ablett or Joel Selwood.. Geelong cannot afford to keep both. I would personally rather Selwood as he will be around for longer and shows great leadership qualities. If GC17 can get all 4 Selwoods together than that would be a promoters dream (not that the Ablett brothers or even Karmichael Hunt wouldn't be)
Given Fremantle's recent form I don't think Pavlich will be going anywhere. Campbell Brown seems a definate and im assuming could be in a bit of trouble for signing his intent during the preseason. Scott Thompson and Nathan Krakouer are the newest names to be linked with GC. Also heard Jarred Brennan could move down the road as well with a couple of Lions team mates but Im not sure how many would want to. Jesse White, Jack Riewoldt, Ricky Petterd, Claye Beams, Sharrod Wellingham, Jarryd Grant, Tom Swift, Phil Davis, Tom Williams, Mitch Clark, Travis Colyer, Jake Melksham, Leigh Adams and Chris Yarran would be the young guns I would be after (not sure which ones are out of contract) |
