StKilda Saints Final Team

Best 22
B: Richards , Merret, Gibson
HB: H. Shaw , Maguire (c), Gilbert
C: Montagna (vc), Foley, Selwood
HF: Hentschell (vc), Franklin, Monfries
F: Hooper, Westhoff, A. Davey
R: McIntosh, Wells, Stanton
I/C: Blake, Rischitelli, Swallow, Gwilt
Emerg: Neagle, Carlile, O’hailpin

Others: Ramanaskaus, Reimers, Hocking, McEvoy, Meredith, Iles, Steven, Thoolen, Watts, Howard, Ferguson, Brooks

Rookies: Van Rheenen, Eddy, Geary, Wall

Draft Picks 9(Ben McEvoy) , 26(Brett Meredith) , 42(Jack Steven) , 47(Tobias Thoolen)

Average Age = 21 years 6 months

Backline: Very strong defence with great rebound. Merret and Maguire would take the two best forwards from the opposition. Richards or Gibson could both share the third tall on a week to week basis. There would be great rebound from H. Shaw and Gilbert. The other defenders could also help the rebound from defence. Then Gwilt can come of the bench and add extra rebound or even take Richards’ or Gibson’s player if they are struggling. All in all, enough variety to stop any attack while also starting a lot of attacks.

Midfield: Wells, Foley, Stanton and Montagna running with the ball through the centre would be a sight to see. T. Selwood would tag the best midfielder from the opposing team so the other players could stay free. Rischitelli and Swallow are class players and would give the other guys a rest from my running gameplan. My two rucks, Hamish McIntosh and Mark Blake (not the cra'ppy Saints one. The good Cats one), are two of the most talented youngsters in the comp and would give the midfielders first use of the ball while also getting around the ground themselves. Other players like Monfries, Davey, Gilbert etc. could also rotate through the midfield.

Forwards: A three pronged tall attack of Hentschell, Westhoff and Franklin would be a handful for any defence. Then Alwyn Davey and Rhan Hooper would swoop on any ball that hits the ground, kicking their trademark goals. Davey and Hooper would also add loads of defensive pressure. Watching them chase, tackle and smother would be a sight to see. Then we’ve got Monfries who can take a mark and crumb. Would always be willing to put his body on the line for the team and would kick at least 20 goals. Also, resting midfielders could add even more goals to an already potent forward line.

Leadership: With a young team it was hard to pick a leadership group but I think Maguire would do a very good job at captain. Montagna and Hentschell could provide great backup if Maguire was injured.

Depth: My team has a lot of depth as well as being great as a best 22. We would be able to stand up if we suffered injuries as we have cover in every position. Hocking, Ramanaskaus and Iles could cover in midfield if injuries struck. Reimers could take a small forward role and Neagle could take a key position forward role if injuries struck the forward line. Carlile could hold down a key position defender role while a number of players including Brett Meredith, my draft pick, could take the running defender role if the opportunity arose. Setanta O’hailpin could also take over in the ruck, in defence or even up forward if need be.

Draft Picks

Ben McEvoy
Strong marking ruckman/key forward who kicks goals. Averaged seven marks a game in NABAFL U18 Championships, winning All-Australian honours. Agile with great endurance. AIS/AFL Academy graduate. The winner of the Murray Bushrangers Best and Fairest Award for 2007.From Dederang/Mt Beauty F.C.

Brett Meredith
Versatile medium defender/midfielder who is an excellent kick and dangerous around goal. Very quick and hard to tackle. Vic Metro U18 representative this year. From Bundoora F.C.

Jack Steven
A nuggety in and under competitive medium midfielder/forward who is able to win his own ball in a contested situation. 2007 highlights including representing Vic Country at U18 level and being awarded the Geelong Falcons' best and fairest award.

Tobias Thoolen
Ruckman who placed second in the Bendigo Pioneers 2007 Best and Fairest award as well as representing Vic Country at U18 level. Athleticism has allowed him to move forward with good effect during the 2007 season.

That Took a While. Lol. Vote high.

Port Power's Final Team

Best 22 :-
B : P.Wheatley - M.Michael - A.Walker
HB : N.Malceski - S.Fisher - A.McPhee
C : T.Edwards - B.Harvey - D.Pearce
HF : R.Murphy - N.Riewoldt - B.Fisher
F : S.Rusling - B.Hall - B.Ebert
Foll : B.Lade - K.Cornes - A.Simpson
I/C : D.Brogan - C.Stiller - F.Ray - S.Gumbleton

EMG : D.Morris - D.Meyer - J.Grant - H.Taylor - A.Otten - S.Browne - K.Cheney

Draft Picks :- 5 (Jarrad Grant), 17 (Harry Taylor), 27 (Andy Otten), 36 (Steven Browne), 53 (Kyle Cheney).

Backline :- Very tall & strong defence with great rebound provided by Malceski & Walker. Mal Michael could easily match full-backs with strength, and is a great spoiler, so I'm pleased to have him at full-back. Sam Fisher was named CHB in the All Stars Team (AKA - Dreamteam), so as you can imagine, I'm pretty pleased to have him on board. Adam McPhee would pick up the third tall, contested marking his forte', his strength is also very good, and he should provide great run out of defence also. Malceski & Walker can negate the opposition, but most importantly, run from the backline like steam-trains & kick it on the forward's chests. Paul Wheatley is a great pick at BP, as he can play on the talls & smalls, and he can really hurt the opposition by foot. My player that would kick-out would be Malceski, is a dead accurate kick, and Paul Wheatley the back-up, as he has that lethal, booming kick. I feel I've got an awesome balance of players in my backline !!

Midfield :- My midfield I feel is very very classy. Brent Harvey is a little dynamo, that can go forward and kick a couple of nice goals, and he was awarded with his great year last year with his 2nd placing in the brownlow. Adam Simpson is the captain of the Kangas, so he is very valuable in my midfield as he provides great leadership skills, and Kane Cornes well, he is one of the premier midfielders in the competition, and he can provide great tagging roles in the midfield. Tyson Edwards can provide a lot of experience and goal kicking power in the midfield also, that racks up the possies, while Pearce can provide awesome run off the wing, can almost out-run anyone, and he can go forward and be very damaging also. So I'm extremely happy with my midfield !!

Forwards :- Where do I start with my forwardline !! Robert Murphy & Brad Fisher provide great, tall - marking targets at HF, and they can kick a bag of goals when needed. Nick Riewoldt is just a superstar, one of / if not the best CHF in the league. Provides a great tall-marking option, and can also kick a bag of goals when needed. He was named at CHF in the All Star side, that is playing Victoria next year. Barry Hall can kick bags of goals, and can provide a tall - marking presence at FF. There is no stopping the big , bad Barry Hall !! Brett Ebert & Sean Rusling are great forward pockets, they would obviously cause headaches for opposition defenders, and are very capable to kick a bag of goals. Scott Gumbleton is on the bench, and provides Murphy or Fisher with a much earned rest. He is full of potential, and should come into his own next year !! This forward-line is one to treasure, I could guarantee you that no backline would be able to stop these players without a doubt !

Rucks :- Lade & Brogan are an outstanding combination, and they both have a great ability of running forward and kicking valuable goals. Not much more to say really, other than that I am overly pleased to keep my ruck duo !!

Captain :- This is a very hard choice, as there are many top candidates for this position. I'm gonna go with Riewoldt for captain, he's a superstar of the game, has captained the Saints and he provides a strong presence at CHF. A.Simpson & B.Harvey were very stiff not to earn the captaincy.

Depth :- Dale Morris (Played for Aus. against the Irish a couple of years ago) & Harry Taylor (Young, tall defender) are there when one of the defenders break down, Danny Meyer & Steven Browne are there to replace any injured midfielders, young and composed mids, with silky skills. Jarrad Grant (Pick 5 in this years draft) & Andy Otten are there to replace any forwards that are injured, and they are both young and full of potential, and I'd expect them to do a fairly good job at that as well. Overall, I'm pretty happy with my depth....

Drafted players :-

Jarrad Grant (5) 192cm - Dangerous key forward with excellent hands. Strong in the air and below his knees. Excellent form in eight games for Dandenong in the TAC Cup where he booted 27 goals. Grant attended the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp and shone in the 20m sprint with a time of 2.89 seconds – placing him in the top 5 per cent. From Frankston Bombers FC.

Harry Taylor (17) 193cm - Versatile player who has appeared in a variety of positions at senior level with East Fremantle in the WAFL competition. High-possession winner who has a great work ethic. Excellent speed (2.91sec for 20m) and endurance (14.2 Beep Test).

Andy Otten (27) 191cm - A prolific ball winner, he averaged more than 26 possessions and six marks per game with the Oakleigh Chargers in 2007 and capped off an outstanding season by taking out the best and fairest award and TAC Cup Team of the Year honours. He recorded strong results at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp, ranking in the top 2 per cent for the vertical leap (92cm) and the top 20 per cent for the beep test (14.2).

Steven Browne (36) 180cm - Small defender/midfielder with clean skills and good ability overhead for a player his size. Made his senior WAFL debut in round 17 with West Perth and was named best on ground in round 18 with 29 disposals and 10 marks. Recorded solid results at the 2007 NAB AFL Draft Camp with a 13.8 beep test and 3.00sec 20m sprint.

Young Players :- There are plenty of young talent in my squad. I'll just name a few - Walker (Former no.2 pick), Malceski, Pearce, Rusling, Gumbleton (Former no.3 pick), Stiller, Ray (Former no.3 pick), Meyer (Former no.12 pick) and more.... My draftees I am really happy with, and I would introduce them to AFL throughout the season. I feel I've got great young players !!

And remember guys, vote Power !! FINISHED !!

Thumbs up

Lineup
B/Jake King, Nathan Carroll, Tyson Goldsack
HB/Jess Sinclair, Dustin Fletcher, Shaun Burgoyne
C/Ryan Houlihan, Marc Murphy, Dean Polo
HF/Daniel Motlop, Scott Lucas, Shannon Grant
F/Kayne Pettifer, Brendan Fevola, Daniel Bradshaw
R/Adam Goodes, Nick Stevens, Chris Knights
I/Steven King, Xavier Clarke , Chris Hyde, Cleve Hughes
Emg/Jordan Russell, Matt Thomas, Luke Blackwell, Matthew Lobbe, Tom Collier

Picks:16 (Matthew Lobbe), 25(Tom Collier), 51(Dean Putt), 58(Tony Armstrong)

I have decided like others that my team is now complete.

Backs:Im really happy with my backs as i started off with in my opinion the worst in the competition. I have a good mix of height and experience. Shaun Burgoyne, Jess Sinclair and Jake King will give me great rebound rebound out of defence while Dustin Fletcher, Nathan Carroll and Tyson Goldsack could hold any forward line.

Midfield:My midfield in probably my weakest position but still very strong. The hardest position for me to fill was my ruck due to the lack of good ruckmen in the comp. I ended up putting Goodes there as thats where he won a brownlow. Nick Stevens, Chris Knights and Marc Murphy are a great combo with Ryan Houlihan and Dean Polo giving great penetration on the wings.

Forwards:I think my forwards are definately my strength. No backs could stop the marking targets of Brendan Fevola, Scott Lucas and Daniel Bradshaw. With Daniel Motlop, Kayne Pettifer and Shannon Grant at their feet this could be a 20 goal a game team.

Bench:I chose Steven King to back up Goodes in the ruck, Xavier Clarke as a utility to play anywhere, Chris Hyde to give back up on wings and Half Back Line and Cleve Hughes as an exciting tall prospect. I also think i have some good picks but i didnt want to many as its a supposed shallow draft.

Leadership:I couldnt decide on one captain so its joint between Adam Goodes, Scott Lucas, Dustin Fletcher and Shannon Grant.

Catagories:I definately think im in the running for most improved as i took my team from the worst to definately up their making the finals. I also think my forwards and backs will do alright aswell.

Trade Game 2007 - Western Bulldogs - Final Team

B:
M.Wilson, B.Harris, S.Gilham
HB:
A.Everitt, T.Chaplin, R.Griffen
C:
T.Lockyer, A.Cooney, M.Nicoski
HF:
S.Higgins, Q.Lynch, N.Eagleton
F:
N.G.Brown, M.Lloyd (VC), R.Robertson
R:
D.Jolly, M.Boyd, S.West (C)
I/C:
M.Gardiner, M.Morton, T.Simmonds, S.Power

EMG: M.Leuenberger (ruck), T.Williams (key back), B.Moloney (mid/HBF/BP), J.McMahon (HBF/wing/BP), A.Thomson (mid), W.Skipper (key forward/ruck), J.Harbrow (small forward)

Draft Picks: 20 (Tony Notte), 22 (Scott Selwood), 54 (Cale Hooker), 60 (Adam Donohue), 70 (Eljay Connors)

The backline is very versatile and adaptable - it will stop more goals than it has in the past and provide plenty of rebound. Harris, the rock of the backline, is one of the top 5 full backs and best contested marks in the competition and is equally adept at accumulating plenty of the ball himself. Wilson provides an experienced head and will take on a tagging role of a smaller/medium player, as well providing rebound from defense. Gilham, an underrated component of Hawthorn's resurgence this year (most improved Hawthorn player 2007), is a versatile tall backman who will take the opposition 2nd/3rd tall or even a small forward if need be as well as accumulating plenty of possessions. Griffen, Everitt and Chaplin form a young half back line and all 3 are very attacking defenders which is essential in today's game. Chaplin and Everitt are two of the most promising young tall mobile defenders in the league (the epitome of the modern style of key backman) and big things are expected of both in 2008 after breakout seasons in 2007. Griffen is a highly rated dashing rebounding defender (should eventually develop into a damaging winger) that loves to run the lines and kick 55m+ trailblazers - unlucky with injury in 2007, but expect a big 2008.

The midfield has a good blend of both pacy outside and hard inside midfielders. West is one of the best extractors of the footy and along with his apprentice, Boyd (WBD B&F 2007) one of the leading clearance midfielders in 2007, equally adept at playing a run with role, and Lockyer, a small hard nosed utility that finds the footy with ease and can count himself unlucky to miss out on AA selection in 2007, they form a formidable inside trio. On the outside is the pace and class of Adam Cooney and Mark Nicoski (can also play in the backline), two young guns that love to run and carry, unload a booming kick into attacking 50 and to kick a goal.

The ruck division has been greatly bolstered through trading with Jolly, the leading tap ruckman in 2006 and in the top 5 in 2007 for hitouts, improving himself as a mobile target around the ground and up forward in 2007, as a starting ruckman and Michael Gardiner, a mobile ruckman/forward, 2003 AA ruck, who has had injuries and off-field issues in past seasons hold him back and Troy Simmonds, who plays in a similar fashion to Gardiner (probably more of a forward), unlucky to miss out on AA in 2006, as strong back-ups.

This forward line is the powerhouse of the side and on paper it looks absolutely deadly. Matthew Lloyd, one of the best full-forwards of the modern era, and the best current full-forward, heads the line-up, with the pocket rocket Russell Robertson and the freakish Nathan G Brown (can also rotate into the midfield) at his side to create space, feed the ball in and pounce on any loose footy. Further up is Quinten Lynch at CHF with an absolute monster of a kick, excellent worth ethic and very nice skills below his knees for a man of his size and two hard running, goal loving half forward flankers in Higgins and Eagleton, also rotating through midfield. Every single defender will have to bring their A game to have any chance of stopping this forward line.

On the bench, Mitch Morton and Sam Power are utilities that can adapt to different positions. While Mitch, a smart, classy player with excellent disposal and a touch of arrogance, is more suited to the forward line and Sam, a medium/tall player who can tag tall mids/3rd tall forwards and link up well during attacking moves, to the backline, both have the ability play well through the midfield as well. Gardiner and Simmonds have already been mentioned in rucks.

Captaincy
was a tough choice with a couple of worthy choices, but I had to go with Scott West as a captain, he's a bulldog through and through, a mentor to the younger pups and leads by example on and off the field. Vice captain goes to Lloyd, superstar of the game, a cool head under pressure and a man with plenty of leadership experience, as VC of the Dons since 2000 and captain in the 2007 season, it was a more straightforward selection. Also in the leadership group are Wilson, Harris and Boyd.

Depth (emergencies) is very solid at the dogs, particularly with all depth players still young and improving. The ruck is well covered for Leuenberger, the best U21 ruck talent in the AFL and Skipper a tall forward that has experience pinch hitting as a ruckman. For defenders, Williams is a developing athletic tall defender who plays similar in style to Chaplin (which is ideal in today's game) and McMahon is a light framed super quick rebounding flanker who struggled with form in 2007 and is another that if in good form is a best XXII prospect. Moving to the midfield depth, there's Moloney, a dashing midfielder that loves to run the lines and kick goals, has struggled with injuries and if fit could very well be in the best XXII and Thomson, a highly rated first round pick in 2004 from Port Adelaide, developing as an efficient inside midfielder. For forwards there's Skipper, who can play deep as a marking target and Harbrow, a highly rated youngs crumbing small forward, 2nd round in the 2006 superdraft, who had a very solid first season in 2007.

Draft picks are on the large part are speculative, with Notte, Hooker and Connors needing a fair amount of developmental work. Selwood and Donohue are close to ready in their first season. Below is a brief profile of all 5:

Notte is the best tall forward prospect from WA, full of potential to be a gun KPP/3rd tall forward, but lacks size big time (only ~70kg)! Sticky hands, very good below the knees, a nice vertical leap and an accurate kick, if he can ever put on enough weight (more than 20kg) to be competitive he will be a real star in the forward line. Is a project player and needs at least 3 years to develop, possibly more.

Selwood is a hard at it, bone crushing inside midfielder, with terrific pedigree - a safe bet. Ability to play as a run-with player, like his brother's Adam and Troy, as well. Would start of in the backline and work his way into the midfield. AFL ready.

Hooker is a tall forward from East Freo reserves, with sticky hands and is a supreme athlete (excellent 20m and agility times in particular at state screening). Suits the Bulldogs fast moving gameplan, has a lot of potential to work with, but is more of a project player.

Donohue is a small rebounding defender with good footy nous and disposal. Would take over from Wilson in the backline in the future. Body is almost ready for AFL.

Connors is a bottom aged midfielder with good speed and agility. Sat out most of the season with a punctured lung. Very skinny (65kg), so like Notte will take a while.

SWANS FINAL TEAM

starting 22
B: Lovett-Murray , Barry, J. McVeigh
HB:H O'Brien ,t croad gram
C: dal santo, Kirk(C), watson
HF:Edwards,Tredrea , M. Mc Veigh
F: , Davis, D.Hille ,Winderlich
FOLL: Everitt, J.Bolton, B Johnson
I/C from: toovey, Ablett,miller, fosdike

Backline: very strong backline that would shut down a lot of team’s forward lines with Leo Barry at fullback and Trent croad at CHB. Also to have Lovett-Murray and gram rebounding the ball out of there and start some good attacks for further up the field. : H O'Brien and J Mc Veigh both reasonably young who are getting better and better every year they play. H O’Brian would be a great replacement for Leo Barry in a few years.

Center: well were to start dal Santo, Kirk and Watson in the middle would be an awesome sight to see the amount of disposals these 3 rack up a game is very high all very strong players get in the pack and get out of with out a worry. Also Dal Santo is very good at controlling the tempo of the game he always looks like he has all the time in the world when the ball in his hands. Watson probably the odd one out in the centre still a very good player who will get better and better playing in a center line with Kirk and dal Santo.

Forward: probably a strong point of my team with a little bit of youth and a few older players Aaron Edwards who is going to be an awesome player had a great year for the kangas this year and is only going to get better the same goes with Winderlich he made a big improvement this year and is a very fast player. Tredrea and Davis the two old players of the forward line who may only have a few more years left in them but I think you and I both know if these two players are on song there is not much stopping them Davis probably one of the best kicks in the AFL and Tredrea one of the best marks in the AFL. Last but not least player of mention in this forward line mark mc Veigh had the best season of his carrer this year in my view a bit unlucky not to win the B&F he has really stepped up a level and will again next year. Only problem I may have is a player to kick 3 or 4 a game with Hille will be rotating with Everitt in the ruck

Captin: had a few options with Barry, Kirk and Tredrea have decided to go with Kirk as captain and as vice captain Mark Mc Veigh as vice who will be a great leader and will get be a great captain in a few years

Depth: maybe something I lack but there are a quiet few players who are there if a few injures happen such as: Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Tim Schmidt, Luke Vogels and Jared Crouch and more

Vote swans!!!

Adelaide

B: Waters, Rutten (c), Johnc0ck
HB: Frawley, Bock, Stevens
C: Hurn, Gibbs, Butler
HF: Mundy, M Brown, Didak
F: D1ck, Boyle, Kennedy
R: Seaby, Van Berlo (vc), Goodwin
Int: Warnock, Rosa, Masten, Buckley

Emg: L. Hansen, Doughty, Douglas, J. Griffin, Grimes, Hinge, Howat, Jericho, Perrie, Pfieffer, Rioli, Sellar, S Thomspon, K Tippett, Torney, T Walker, Ward

Picks: 3 (Masten), 12 (Rioli), 14 (Grimes), 19 (Ward), 37 (Scott Thompson), 75 (Walker)

Back Line: How can you go wrong with a backline like mine? I have one of the best fullbacks in the league in Ben Rutten, with West Coast star and hardnut Beau Waters in one pocket and the excitement rebounding machine in Graham Johnc0ck. Across the HB Line I have an experienced backline with third man up Stevens in his customary role that has earned him high praise over the last two years, as well as Nathan Bock in his natural role as CHB where he has restricted the likes of Pavlich and Brown before. James Frawley is a young kid from the SuperDraft who started well last year and adds a bit of Height and skill to the rebound.

Centre: The additions of local kids in Hurn, Gibbs and Butler allow Goodwin the chance to mentor players for the future. Hurn has already shown he is capable of AFL level with his booming kick a nice addition. Butler is a premiership star from WCE limited last year to 0 games due to a nagging groin injury. Gibbs the #1 from last year started off slowly at Carlton but found more time in the midfield and will at Adelaide to shine. Seaby is an experience ruckman in his own right and is starting to climb out of the Shadow of Dean Cox. He can play down forward and kick a bag of goals, as well he can move across the ground like Cox but his skills aren't there yet. Van Berlo kicked on this year to become Adelaides third best midfielder behind Scott Thompson and Simon Goodwin, a bit of tow and great skills he is the cornerstone of Adelaides future midfield (in real life). Goodwin is Goodwin, capable of winning the Brownlow but doesn't get the votes he deserves, week in week out with 30 possie games that dominates other teams.

Foward Line: David Mundy is a player I consider to have the best long kicking skillset in the AFL. I have rarely seen him miss a pass to Pavlich's chest from 40m+. Those Dynamic skills form the centre of the ground towards the forward line can help the Adelaide forward line get first use of the pill quite easily. Mitch Brown has bulked up over the summer and when playing his first game against Sydney this year he showed poise beyond his years to prove that he was rightfully a high draft pick from the Weagles. Alan Didak is a proven performer and All Australian, he will give you the spectacular week in week out and also a consistent performance with the honor of rarely being beaten by his team mate. Brad D1ck is a young man from the superdraft who impressed with his freaky abilities in his few games for Collingwood in the season just gone by. He looks like a Leon Davis clone, but taller and that is something Adelaide need, a crumbing forward. Tim Boyle is a proven performer at Hawthorn and has a great lead and kick as part of his attributes. Rarely misses at goal and rarely beaten on the lead, something Adelaide needs also. Josh Kennedy in real life was traded to the WCE, they see him as a great FF or CHF in the next 5 years. He has great sice at around 198cm and 100kg. Can beat his man one on one most of the time.

Interchange: Warnock is a rising star in the world of ruckmen. Likened to Justin Madden, he has all the attributes to become one of the competitions best ruckmen, and he's only 20. He proved this by rucking as Freo's #1 during Sandilands absence and being able to beat an experienced ruck in Ackland the majority of the times, couple with his 16 possessions around the ground, he's very Coxlike. Rosa is also a proven performer and should have been a premiership player at the WCE. Improving his game week in week out Rosa is a star of the future. Chris Masten is also a star of the future, a player similar to goodwin but better in terms of he can use both feet equally well. Simon Buckley was a young kid thrown to the wolves by Melbourne this year and he shone brightly. Not a high pick in t he draft 2 years ago but Melbourne rate him highly

Captain:
Ben Rutten has proven himself to be a fine leader of the backline and a fine leader of the club in the absence of Ricciuto two years ago. He deserves it. Van Berlo is a rising star at the club and deserves the honour of being Vice.

Depth: Adelaide has a great amount of depth. In the forward area we have the dangerous and highly talented Cyril Rioli, as well as a highly rated Taylor Walker, Kurt Tippet and James Sellar from the superdraft. The midfield has genuine talent depth in Callan Ward, Pfieffer, Hinge and a highly rated Jack Grimes. The Backline is a little shallow in depth but the addition of Scott Thompson from Geelong's VFL team gives it depth it needs. That as well as Lachlan Hansen from the Kangaroos who was highly rated in the 2006 Superdraft. The Ruck department is filled by a rising star in Griffin, Tippet and Sellar.

Just a note, I built this team as a team of the future, hence why most other teams with Judd etc will beat it now, but they have 4 years Experience on most of my players

Vote Adelaide!

The ‘rebuilding’ of Melbourne has begun.
Starting 22 (Current Age, Games)
B: Bell (22,45), Thurstans(27,83), Massie(27,119)
HB: Pettigrew(22,56), Rivers (23,64), Symes(22,20)
C: Cassisi(25,107), Jones(VC)(19,29), Dunn(20,23)
HF:Green(26,166), Hahn(26,112), Thomas(20,41)
F: Bate(20,33), Riewoldt(19,8), Newton(20,10)
R: White(VC)(30,253), McDonald(C)(31,198), McLean(21,61)
INT: Petterd(19,9), Maric(21,14), Bassett(30,187), Gray(19,5)
EMERG:
Reid, Welsh, Krakouer, Bartram
Morton, Lower, Edwards
C.Johnson, Giles, Bradley

Backline
There are only two survivors from Melbourne’s class of 2007 with 4 experienced defenders coming in. Toby Thurstans will have the mobility and strength to go with the oppositions best forward each week as Bell and Rivers continue their trade of becoming elite tall defenders by taking the 2nd and 3rd tall forwards. Massie and Bassett bring extra versatility, Pettigrew brings explosive pace and rebound and Symes’ ball winning ability makes Melbourne’s new backline much more versatile.

Midfield
Hard nuts in Jones, McDonald and McLean were kept, as well as tall wingman Lynden Dunn, who is expected to have a breakout year in 2008. Domenic Cassisi comes off a career best year with Port Adelaide to give both a tagging role to replace the outgoing Simon Godfrey as well as outstanding ball winning ability. Jeff White retains the number one ruck position but will have lots of competition in the near future with young Ivan Maric and Jonathon Giles pushing for the spot.

Forward
Some tough decisions had to be made because of the outstanding depth in both talls and smalls up forward. Young Jack Riewoldt and Ben Reid were both brought in after debuting in their first year at their respective clubs after being first round picks in the superdraft. Cult figure Newton will have less pressure on him in the forward pocket as Mitch Hahn comes in to take over the CHF position. Brad Green and Dale Thomas will provide extra versatility, with both able to rotate into the midfield, Matthew Bate will provide another strong marking target and the next Gary Ablett, Robbie Gray and explosive small forward Nathan Krakouer will provide extra avenues to goal.

Depth
The squad has plenty of depth with Reid, Krakouer, Welsh and Bartram all extremely unlucky to miss out on a spot in the starting 22. There is much more ruck depth now with the inclusions of Giles and Maric to go along with P.Johnson and Jamar. Two of the clubs 3 draft picks are also expected to play a prominent role in 2008 in Morton and Bradley.
New Draft Picks
Pick 4 – Cale Morton
Pick 33 – Matthew Westhoff
Pick 69 – Kepler Bradley

COLLINGWOOD

starting 22:
FB - M.Johnson, S.Prestigiacomo, S.Dempster
HB - R.Shaw, N.Maxwell, A.Raines
C - B.Holland, D.Swan, T.Johnstone
HF - B.Deledio, T.Cloke, A.Buchanan
FF - L.Davis, A.Rocca, M.Loughlin
R - J.Fraser, S.Pendlebury, C.Bruce
i/c - J.Lay****, S.Burns, C.Dempsey, S.Dew
emg - D.Armitage, N.J.Brown, L.Jetta
other - S.Wakelin, G.Richards, J.Davenport, B.Vince, S.Cox, C.Egan, J.Allen, J.Anthony, R.Cook, C.Dawes, B.Houli, D.MacKay, D.Stanley, P.Dangerfield, G.O'Keefe

strength - midfield includes Swan, Pendlebury, Bruce, Johnstone, Holland(tagger), Burns(bench). other players to push through there include Deledio, Buchanan, R.Shaw, Raines. you can never have enough midfielders.
forwardline of Cloke, Rocca, O'Loughlin which should provide plenty of goals. Deledio, Buchanan, Davis can hopefully average 1 goal per game.
ruck combo of Fraser, Lay**** is strong on paper. however, Richards is my only backup.

weakness - backline. in particular, the tall key position players of Presti, Maxwell, Dempster. i would've liked to own a high-possession tall defender (eg. Sam Fisher). Raines, R.Shaw, M.Johnson are capable of winning the ball, but are inaccurate with their disposal. hopefully Dempsey can rectify that next year.

FINAL BRISBANE TEAM

Starting Lineup:
B: J.Sherman, M.Hudghton, J.Roe
HB: T.Kennelly, R.Copeland, C.Bateman
C: T.Stenglein, N.Lappin, C.Enright
HF: C.Jones, J.Brown(c), Aaron Davey
F: A.Yze, S.Welsh, D.Rodan
R: J.Charman, S.Black, L.Power
I/C: J.Patfull, A.McGrath, C.Wood, C.Sylvia

Draft Picks
8(Lachlan Henderson) 32(Levi Greenwood) 35(Sam Reid)

Backline: Im quite happy with the backline, Kennelly and Bateman can give run and rebound while Copeland, Hudghton and Roe can all do defensive jobs against the opposition forwards. As for Sherman he is there as a replacement role for Ad**** but can still run into the Midfield if needed.

Midfield/Ruck: The midfield is pretty dang good, Stenglein can do a tagging role on the oppositions best and do a great job as he always does. Lappin is probably Brisbanes most experienced and still racks up plenty of possesions while Enright is a fine link up player.
The ruck is unchanged but still brilliant. Charman is one of the best ruckmen in the competition who will tap it down to Black and Power who are and have been some of Brisbanes best in the past few years.

Foward Line: I reckon this is a bloody good Foward line that will kick a ****load of goals with Brown (need i say more?) who is my Captain and this years Coleman medallist, Jones(Kangaroos leading goal scorer) and Welsh(Adelaides leading goal scorer). Along with those 3 I have Davey and Rodan. some of the quickest players in the league and Yze who can create goals from nothing.

Interchange: Patfull can go forward or back and has the ability to play on taller opponents. McGrath is a good defensive small forward who can pressure the opposition while in the forward line. Wood is a talented young ruckmen who can do a fine job when replacing Charman. Sylvia is a good attacker of the footy and can go into the midfield or up forward.

This is a pretty good side which could do well in the foward line department and possibly the midfield as well.
