I would just like to ask ... How did the 20YO get left till pick 71 in last years draft?

How did rodan get left till 86 (Last pick)
How did gray get left till 55 (was good before injury)

How did they get Mahoney before the '04 season with the last pick of the draft?

Port seem to have a nack at getting the goods with their late round picks. Would be great to be able to do it at the swannies.

I heard an interesting stat on the weekend watching the geelong game, Travis Boak (Pick 5 i think) is the highest pick Port Adelaide has had, ever. Makes you laugh we you look at the saints list and see 5 number 1s and 15 in the top 5.

Westhoff has the ability, and at 198(?)cms, when he gets some bulk on him he will be very hard to match up on. He took three or four contested marks on Glass earlier in the season, anyone doing that inside their first 10 games can play.

Actually I think you raise a very good point. It almost seems, its not a matter of what clubs do with early picks that count ... its "smart" late picks that will make the difference.

Port are a classic example ... pick well late in the draft and you improve.

Had been playing for Central Districts for a while, not doing anything too spectacular. One of those players that performs alot better in the AFL than in the local leagues, the new push in the back rule has helped him alot too. Port runner Stuart Cochrane, an ex centrals player actually recommended him.

Lol you'd think so Also with Rodan, he would not have been with the club had Sheedy not have asked him to train with the Bombers. The Power's new recruiting officer in Melbourne watched him in their training sesssion and suggested that Port bring him down to look at him. Lots of luck goes with recruiting.

Westoff faded off late, especially in the finals series. I know, you can expect that with first year players, but...hes 20, and should be a bit more mature than the average draftee, and therefore should be able to run out seasons better...

And, as ive said in other posts...richmonds recruiting isnt as bad as we are given credit (or lack there of...)
