Default Phil Read - Geelong Cats

GEELONG has made a late addition to its VFL list, and it is a significant "in" indeed.

The Cats have locked in delisted Melbourne onballer Phil Read, who was best-afield or Sandringham against Geelong in last year’s grand final.

Cameron Ling, one of Read’s surfing buddies, initiated the move, suggesting VFL coach Leigh Tudor contact Read.

"We had a bit of a chat and what he wanted to do and what we were looking for .... it turned out perfect," Tudor said on Wednesday morning.

The 108-game AFL player will miss the first four matches of the season owing to a suspension for headbutting Matthew Stokes in the grand final.
