Default 2007 AFL Premiership Contenders

Apart from favourites Geelong and now the WCE, who at this stage of the season are genuine premiership contenders. I know technically any finalist can win, but this is how I rate all the potential finalist's chances.

Kangaroos
- My dark horse. Absolutely no logical reason why they can't win it.

Port
- Would need the right players firing at the right time (Cornes bros Burgoyne bros) I would expect young forwards such as Westhoff and Gray to struggle a bit under finals pressure.

Hawthorn - Maybe a year off having a real crack. Would need a major form swing pretty soon to have any impact on the finals.

Collingwood - Really rated them before I saw the lions dismantle them on Saturday night. Like the hawks, they may be a year off.

Sydney - Could be a threat but would need an unlikely top 4 position. Their experience could be a huge factor.

Essendon - Still don't think they will make the finals. Emotion can only carry you so far. Won't have an impact even if they make it.

St Kilda - May have won 5 of the last 6, but I think their opposition have made them look better than what they are. Not a contender.

Bulldogs - An interesting one. May be the surprise if they make it. A lot will rest on the fitness of Gilbee, West, Cross and Griffen.

Brisbane - Would be a good effort to just make it, but a young list would make it very hard.

Adelaide - Would also do well to make it, but an on-song Crows is a very good footy side. An unlikely outside chance.

Facts say, On Current form wt hell not? They could do it and are playing awesome. Most expect them to drop away, and base their theories on other seasons. Base it on this season, they are in top form. But I am one of those many and don't think they can.

Hawthorn and Collingwood are my dark horses, they could do anything in the finals. Hawks have to be careful though, they could miss the finals altogether.

Geelong have to be favourites and Eagles for me second.

Collingwood got smashed but they aren't the first team to be belted going into a finals campaign.

Eagles in 92 2 weeks out were held goal less for 3 and a half quaters against Footscray. Belted in the wet, the 30 point margin flattened them. The next week they came out and kicked 8 goals to nil in the opening term vs Carlton, knocking them out of the 6 and won the flag beating Geelong twice in the finals, the highest scoring side in History.

Ironic that 2 years later we would get belted by Carlton in our second last game of the season, then smash Footscary in the last match and top the ladder and again win the flag.

2006 r-21 freo beat us by 57 ppoints or so. Another flag. Actually whats all this second last game nonsense. We lose and then win the flag
It looked shocking for the Pies, but 1 loss can't always be looked at as an indicator.

Weird all that nonsense I just posted. Like last year and year before.

2005 Eagles win first meeting in h&a, Sydney wins the second game, come finals eagles win by 4 points, then lose the Grand final by 4 points

2006, 1 meeting in home and away season eagles win it, final at subi lose by 1 point 85 to 84, grand final win by 1 point 85 to 84

Prediction the grand final will be between Geelong and Port with Geelong winning by about 4 goals.

Sorry to the Judds and plugg3rs of this world but they have had the last few years.

On their day, maybe. But I can't see them getting past the eagles or the cats

Would have to be West Coast and Geelong.
