Question Smart Teams / Dumb Teams

Noel Judkins was known as the leading recruiting officer in football for over two decades. A part of a family inextricably entwined with the Richmond club he moved to Essendon just before the Tigers stopped winning flags (a coincidence?), and finished at the Maggies.

Does anyone know the answer to this trivia question.

Why did Judkins - encouraged by Kevin Sheedy - leave his family’s beloved Richmond to go to Essendon:

a) Essendon offered more money and Richmond refused to match offer
b) Richmond failed to get him an offer in time
c) Felt it was time for a change and Richmond officials didn’t return calls
d) Richmond wouldn’t pay his petrol money to get to work

Quote: “We'd better take Hird now, just in case.”
- K. Sheedy to N. Judkins at pick 79, 1990 draft.

Just a guess, but I'll take option D as it's the most ridiculous one.

Default And the Answer is...

O.K, it was a lame trivia question but the inference should be clear.

And the answer is of course “d” Richmond wouldn’t pay Judkins' petrol money to get to work.

Information source: one of last of Judkins’ recruits for Richmond, former member of the Western Australia junior state basketball team - the one, the only, Brian “BT” Taylor.

I wonder if it was Caroline Wilson’s daddy, the same guy who bulleted the great K. Sheedy, who wouldn't shelve out a few bucks to keep Judkins at Punt Road.
That I don’t know but I’m sure she would have written about it - NOT.
