Default Conspiracy Theory Melbourne Vs Carlton - rd 22 2007

Sorry boss, couldn't wait to start talking conspiracy on this one...

Ok, so currently we have the best looking bottom end of the ladder in a long time.

14th - Melbourne, 16pts 75.8%
15th - Carlton, 16pts 74.3%
16th - Richmond, 14th 76.6%

Now, Richmond are playing ok footy atm, and would under normal circumstances be a chance to beat the saints this week. However, as you can see, a win will put them out of the spoon spot, and therefore out of prime position each round for the draft picks. The will lose this week.

Now, here is where it gets really interesting.
The winner of Melbourne and Carlton not only LOSES their priority pick, but they then also put themselves in the que behind the other for each pick each round. So they will both want the other to lose.
If Carlton win, not only do they lose their spot in the que, but they also lose a Pre-Rd1 priority pick.

Now, what if its a draw? Both teams will remain under 5 wins!
If Melbourne come to Carlton offering a draw, Carlton should take it, and visa-versa.
The twist in the tail is this...
If it is a draw, Carlton have lost nothing at all, everything went as well as it possibly could have.
However, for Melbourne, they have lost the chance to move ahead of Carlton in the que.

So will Melbourne honor the deal? Or will they run the ball down in the last 20 secs and rush a point to lose the game? This will not only keep their priority pick, but it will also lose Carlton theirs, a pre-rd1 pick! And even more, it will promote each of Melbourne's picks ahead of Carlton's!

Look for the sides to remain within three goals of each other all night, with a few easy shots being missed to keep the points level. Don't be surprised if there is a few 50s too to turn some set shots into certainties. But most of all, don't be surprised when everyone is certain its a set up and its gonna be a draw, that Melbourne then fu<k em over and rush a behind.

Oh, and 60s for the draw could make a good end of season trip...

No.

4 wins, 1 draw, and the BOTH lose the draft picks.
CARLTON = LOSS
RICHMOND = LOSS
MELBOURNE = WIN (haha, how stupid were they beating the Bulldogs)

Carlton couldn't possibly stuff this up from here. The no.1 pick is there, they must take it. Just play the kids (out of position) and they'll be fine.
Melbourne... i can't believe they went out and beat the Bulldogs knowing **** well they'd face Carlton in rd22. They will surely lose their 2nd round priority pick (the equivalent of Leroy Jetta). What a waste of a seaon!
Richmond can't afford to win either. That would also move up to 4 wins, 1 draw, and miss a 2nd round priority draft pick. They will also be eligible for a 1st round priority pick 2008, should they win 4 games (or less) next year. They'll gladly accept the wooden spoon!

Yip ... this is going to be a very, very interesting set of events.

If the Dees where half smart they would do a deal with both Tigers & Blues ... JOKING.

However he denied new coach Brett Ratten and the players would tank.

"In all fairness, I would rather them lose because of the draft picks," Koutoufides said last night.

"But I know their mentality is going to be to go out there and win.

"But in all truth, I think the majority of Carlton people would like to see them get the No. 1 draft pick."

If Carlton loses the "Kreuzer Cup" this week and St Kilda beats Richmond, it secures picks 1, 3, 20, 36 and 52. If the Blues win, they lose the priority pick.

"Of course, I don't want them to win for the simple fact I want to see them get the draft picks," said Koutoufides, who retired after Round 17 because of injury.
Very Interesting
