Default Roos Blames Injuries For Swans Early Exit

"You look at our main problems this year. They were (Tadhg) Kennelly out: he will be fine next year. Barry Hall injured for the back-half of the year: he will be fine. Leo Barry missed five games but his first half of the year was very good. Lewis Roberts-Thomson missed the whole season and he is only 23 years old.

"In the cold, hard light of day it is our job to be analytical where the list is at. Most of our problems this year probably stem from injuries more than anything else. It's always good to get some good young players in. But generally speaking, we will go into next year pretty confident."

Matthew Pavlich and Jonathon Brown will be quaking in their boots with the prospect of a fully fit LRT for the Swans next year

Oh please, every team gets injuries. The Eagles have been hit pretty hard with them but they have still played well.

Its because they are all ageing players and are being picked on reputation IMO.

You have to be ****ting me...
Eagles list was only hurt on there own foot, Judd was different.

Swans list was hit pretty hard with major name players, we ain't no big name team we're a team full of players who play for each other.

Barry Hall, Tadgh Kennelly and Leo Barry are some of our best players.
Also missing from that list was Jared Crouch one of the best shut down men in the comp, remember all the games he shut down an in form Akermanis during the Lions glory years.

Basically our team was strong because of the fact we had near zero injuries, this year hit our team hard.

You guys can go "whingers" all you want, but a full strength swans side can beat any team out there.

I am not entirely sure what you mean by that statement, but there is an argument that a fully fit Eagles outfit could beat anyone. I say call it even on that considering they contested the last two GFs and split the prizes.

Eagles have been without some of their best players as well. As you noted Judd is different. Judd has been listed in a lot of games, but you could hardly say he has played all of them out.

Other players of note:

Cousins lost through - well you know...

Embley last years Norm Smith, who can be effective at both ends of the ground.

Hansen, basically the only true CHF WC have.

Fletcher who would be in the first 21 and would be very useful considering no Judd or Cousins.

Nicoski would be in the first 21, but I guess you can't really count him, because he's always injured.

Roosy has a right to be annoyed at the injuries. At the moment, the Eagles are playing down injury concerns. After they exit the finals though, I am sure they will reflect upon a season hampered by injury as well.

It probably just comes off as sour grapes a week after exiting the finals. I think if he has said it in 2 months people would be more open to this - but then again, noone will be listening in 2 months.

I meant some Eagle players missed games because of themselves..

Cousins - Drug Use
Kerr - Drunken times
ETC.

Yes I agree though, Eagles and the Swans have had a hard season due to injuries. Otherwise im sure the Cats would of had some real contenders.
Playing 2 years in Grand Finals does wear you out.

Kerr probably wasn't missed much during the season - maybe 3 matches from suspension and at the time it wasn't finals and WC had players in hand. But his timing for this injury is incredibly bad.

The suspensions were reckless though - I think he deserves a kick up the butt. He is clearly one of the best in the comp when he is going, but lets himself down with an errant elbow now and then. He could have been up there for a Brownlow this year - he could still be votes-wise, just ineligible.

Teams will have injuries and players from teams will be suspended be it from ON or OFF the field incidents,it happens..Sydney have been going full steam for 3-4 years and teams do burn out when they go that hard,it happend to Brisbane and it will happen to WCE. It might be time for Sydney to think ahead in terms of what does 2008 hold for them (cant see top 4 ).Its in my opinion that Sydney are dying off and need to look beyond 2008???.Sydney had a season off injuries but some players look like they needed time OFF.

Sydney's window has probably closed. I think this year was probably their last chance before the cycle starts again.

WC should have at least 2-3 more years in which to win a premiership if they can keep their top players. Judd, Cousins, Kerr, Glass and Cox are still young. So are a number of their other players that are just below AA level.

Geelong look like they are about to enter a good period as well, with the players that have stood out for them mostly being young as well.

Uhh, Kerr's injured finger? Cousin's hamstring? Hansen? Hamstring and others? Embley? Various injuries.

They are arguably the most influencial players on there list, and the weren't "hurt on there own foot".
