a team that always has support, but is most hated, is collingwood
a team that has huge support, and has been successful although not in the past 5 years is essendon
a team that has support and success and ticks your boxes is hawthorn
a team that has been lacking success, and has a snobby supporter base is melbourne
a team that has medicore supporters, and little to no success is st kilda

most likley to win a flag in the next 5 years-hawthorn,collingwood,essendon
most likley to become extinct----kangaroos,bulldogs
most likley to implode at board level----st kilda, richmond, carlton, melbourne
most likley to make you rip your hairs out as a supporter--richmond,stkilda

but you seem like you know football so heres the best analogy-

Carlton- liverpool, lots of culture and history but flagging right now
Collingwood- man u, hated by all, but has been succesfull and always is there abouts
Essendon- West ham, powerhouse with huge support who hasnt won silverware of late
Bulldogs- Birmingham, plays some nice footy but always seem to be floundering just above relegation
Hawthorn- Tottenham, former powerhouse who is just getting back to best and hankering for its glory years
Melbourne- Blackburn, has been a success in the past but is just filling the numbers now
Kangaroos-West borm, always does just enough to stave off relegation
Richmond-Newcastle, huge support, never deliver, sack coaches regulary
St kilda- Everton ,not the biggest club in the city, but performs well, if not underachieves now and then.
So...who's like Charlton Athletic?

I don't care what you say, the Geelong Advertiser is a mighty fine publication for Geelong supporters and bandwagoners alike

Danepak you sound like the sort of supporter any club would like to have.
good work for doing a bit of research and not just going for who everyone else goes for, or for whoever is winning.
personally i think the saints are in for a good year, they may not win it all, but should be some good viewing.
good luck in melbourne, and stay around on here, when i get over to melbourne from adelaide for a game, we'll catch up for a beer

Thanks Ronnie,
Well, I would like to think that I take my sport and the culture around it seriously, which explains my questions.
Always up for a beer! Looking forward to it.
Won't be moving to Melbourne before May though.

You asked about special stories of the AFL. Possibly about how they merged Fitzroy and the Bears, two pretty poor teams and in just five years was transformed into a legendary club. That would be the latest special story.

Fair call, 3 premierships in a row and a runner up the following year. Add to that 3 Brownlow medalists within that time. Only Geelong are in that position today to emulate that.

Default answers are more simple in the west

If you want to barrack for the greatest team - choose the West Coast Eagles.
If you are a traitor, know nothing about football, or a foreigner - choose the Dockers.
