I would consider myself a muppet if I supported a team 3500 km away from home. Especially when there are 9 teams to choose from in my (soon to be) new home town.
If Perth was the first city I settled in in Australia, then it would probably be a different story.
But I'm going to pick a team, and stick to this team, no matter where I'll be living later (if we stay in Australia).
Only fools without a serious interest in a sport starts changing teams.

As far as family friendly is concerned you could take the wife and kids along to nearly any game with the proviso that you seat yourselves strategically at a Collingwood game.

Danepak, to really capture the atmosphere of the game, do yourself a favour and go along to some of the "big" MCG games. You can buy tickets in advance and its completely safe for you and your family. Its one of the things I miss living abroad. The big crowds really make the day (or night) special. Collingwood feature here a lot due to their big following, and at the moment, the teams that traditionally have drawn the big crowds, such as Essendon and Carlton are not so strong - so the games might be as good a spectacle. Go to the Anzac Day game, and definitely go see Geelong vs Collingwood at the MCG on 23 May. Go enjoy, and welcome to Melbourne.

Thanks
I've been told that it's a lot better to watch it in a stadium, so I'm looking forward to my first live game.
Spoken to a few Melburnians and Adelaidians (are they called that?), and they've all got a great passion for the game and they've told me that I'm in for a great time in Melbourne.

Hi Danepak,

Welcome to Oz, great to have you here.

Now Im 100% impartial, all I want to do is prevent you having years of frustration, angst and disapointment ahead of you.

So here is a little run down on my team opinions to help you make the right choice........

IF you make the wrong choice....we are going to remind you each time your choice gets beaten, so think hard....coz ya cant change yer mind.

Richmond.....Good Colours, and always have a big say in the Golden Tankard trophy. Maybe ???

Hawthorn....Terrible Jumper ya dont want that!!!!! Great team

Carlton won the Golden Tankard trophy more than anyone else, and could do it again in 08. Nah ya dont want them!!!!!

St Kilda....Just make up the numbers....Nah!!!!

Bulldogs....Everyone likes them cause they never finish higher than 4th Nah!!!

Geelong...its in another state, Nah!!!

North Melbourne.....Good team but may relocate to Borneo nah!!

Collingwood...One of the best teams for coming second, nah!!!

Melbourne, current owner of the golden tankard, will fight hard to keep it in 08, Nahhhh!!!

ESSENDON...the pride of the competition, rich in history, always fair and clean on the field, win flags all the time, but modest too. Supporters well behaved, polite, and never get too upset, for they know another flag is coming. Many of the original Essendon supporters I believe arrived from Denmark which is why even today they are often called the Dans (from the danish word DANE) by the old folk, which later became the Dons.

Ha ha ha have a great Day

I don't care what you say, the Geelong Advertiser is a mighty fine publication for Geelong supporters and bandwagoners alike
