tkv, I agree with you.
It's exactly the same with football in the UK. It's rather sad.
I will however, follow St. Kilda with passion next season (I only arrived a couple of weeks ago, so haven't had a lot of time to get into the sport - but trust me, I will next season).

Dont you think that going to the GF would be the best thing for someone to become passionate about the sport?
I like rugby league and I follow it I dont see what the problem is with liking sport in general. Its not like you have to be 'wedded' to one sport, he was only mentioning Channel 9s bad coverage of the NRL, which actually has teams in 3 states and NZ and the WA Reds are going to come back into the competition.

Yes, I wasn't brought up with Aussie Rules, but I wouldn't have posted on this message board in the first place, if I wasn't interested in the sport.
I opened up the newspaper today. 26 pages devoted to the Grand Final.
That makes the World Cup final, Champions League final and FA Cup final coverage looks like absolutely nothing.
Never seen anything like this.
Wifey told me that it was all mad around Flinders Street this morning, due to the GF parade.
All they're on about on TV is the GF.
I admire it. I like it.
Just my cup of tea.
You can never get enough coverage of something you really love. I'm sure I'll love it 100% next season, but this is only a starter for me.
Besides...26 degrees and sunshine tomorrow. Cold beers and a sold out stadium for a final. Can't wait.

I enjoy lots of sports too but you still don't get the passion and way of life thing. For starters learn that 'football' really refers to one game only in Australia.
This has been a great thread though - I loved the questions you posed and the terrific answers people took the time to put together.

Is it very different from the passion that you find in the UK when it comes to football (soccer)?
Where lots of supporters are there every week, both home and away.
I was one of them (supporting Charlton Athletic), while I lived in London and I've caught the train up to Newcastle or Sunderland on a rainy Tuesday.
I've been travelling all over Europe, following my local Danish team.
Sleeping outside the ticket office at the stadium, to be sure that I could get a ticket for an important match.
I'm new to this sport, but I know what passion for your team is about.
