The Optimist is on a distinguished road
Default Jeff Kennett Names Gold Coast Demons

Well it took some time for the penny to drop, but after having read The Optimists column "Melbourne Brand Meaningless" on April 17 2008 Jeff Kennett has come to the same conclusions as yours truly.

It is clear that The Melbourne Football Club is now suffering great financial hardship with a to-be reported $1,000,000 loss imminent.

With Jeff Kennett now publicly stating his case against Melbourne remaining in Melbourne it appears that the snowball has started to roll down the hill.

Not only is it the opinion of the media it has now started from within the AFL structure.

I'd rather see a merger and Melbourne Demons staying in Melbourne then moving..

Like one of the ORIGINAL teams of the AFL with one of the greatest teams in history to move is just wrong.

Sth Melbourne was a different case all together before anyone says anything.

Maybe that's what Kennett is worried about. The Melbourne Hawks anyone?

Oh how quickly we forget! Sounds like "selective amnesia" is spreading amongst the older members of our AFL community.

All clubs face 4 futures, stay as a club, merge, move or fold. The first one is what we all want & many fans will fight hard to keep thier club (well done roos - for now). Folding is is bad for everyone. So if a club cant survive as it is, whats better - merge, move or fold? For me I would merge before move, and move before folding.
Its for Melboune fans to think about.
