G'day all,
this is probably goin to b pretty biased coming from a backman but some of these new rules, such as chopping the arms, hands in the back and the automatic report for a head high bump just have to go next year. Apart from making it very difficult to stop a forward like Buddy, we are talking about Australian Rules Football here... not tiddlywinks. Our great game is turning soft and i dont like it... we used to b able to chop the arms and bump head high and hold our player there with our hands... its frustrating for players and supporters alike, and i doubt umpires r a fan of the booing they cop. so with that, i propose they go. However, i cant go out bagging things without ideas to fix it up. so here is what i suggest...
1)Allow the chopping of the arms... it brings back the physicality (sort of) back into this great game and adds a bit of difficulty for a forward...
2)Allow hands in the back, but as soon as the player in front is pushed forward, taking them out of the contest, it becomes a push as it used to b...
3)I do admit that the head high bump is pretty important as i am all for protection of the players, but some calls this year were disgraceful. As a doggies supporter, im sad to see (as a MASSIVE doggies fan) that Bobby Murphy got rubbed out for that incident back against the hawkers.. not like he had a big chance for the brownlow with one G. Ablett running around.. but still... at least lets allow a bit of physicality.
The hardness of this great game is what attracts the crowds and what makes this game so unique. so... let me know wat u's think
catch ya's
