Default Best Teams of the past - Non Winners

Ok guy's I'm an obsessed AFL Fan and remember a lot about recent history. So I thought we could list what we consider great teams not to have won it and teams that could have done well if they had made the finals.

In 1992, the year I started following the game full on, I remember Carlton doing well all the way through until the last 2 games. They defeated Hawthorn twice, the reigning premiers, with Silvagni starring in one with 8 goals. Beat Collingwood in the centenary match, the Saints twice and knocked of Footscray by about 82 points. Unlucky.

Geelong in 93 finished the season on a real high, beating nemesis West Coast in Perth in the last game of the season, beat the eventual Premiers Essendon, I think Hawthorn twice and North Melbourne twice. Like Carlton also finished 7th, but more than likely that 38 point lead they let slip against the Eagles in the Grand Final rematch at Kardinia Park cost them. Ablett really cut loose from this point in time with a Century of Goals, his first of 3 I'f I recall.

Geelong in the 90's were the great team not to have won it, Lost 3 GF'S - 2 to West Coast and 1 to Carlton. In 1992 they were the highest scoring team in history, The belted Richmond, Adelaide and Brisbane, with mamoth scores, kciking 37.17 against the Bears. But they did lose 3 out of 4 games to the Eagles so they didn't deserve it when it mattered.

In 1997 I think a No-mark call against Leigh Colbert changed things dramtically dramatically in Adeliade in the semi final.

Kangaroos 98 I believed derserved the flag, like Essendon did in 99, so Kangaroos may consider themselves lucky that year. Having said that, Football is won on every game of the year, not just for 23 games, so Carlton did definaetly deserve that famous win in 99.

Collingwood in 2002 I thought maye have been a bit stiff with that Lynch free kick in the dying stages.

Saints in 97 I thought were ging to do it for sure, but hey, the Crows certainly Crowed.

And the Power were a great team for 4 years straight, but couldn't sustain the pressure at the final turn apart from 04.

West Coast in 91 - A lot of people say they should have won it - Garbage! We lost to Hawthorn by 23 points in our first home final and by 53 in the Grand Final - Not even close

Looks like Freo/St.Kilda/Adelaide could be the next ones

Swans in 96.(V North) Geez didn't that start some rivalry in Mexico against the Sydney Mob. I thought they had it in the bag at half time. Kelly and Plugger deserved a flag.

What final at home (WC) to the Hawks did Murray Wrenstead(?) have a chance to win the game with a goal and missed for a point?

OOOOHHHHHHH YEHH I remember that one Wanganeen hitting the post in the dying seconds. Thrased us by 77 points at the G, we lost to you the year before by 19 points with Lloyd snagging 3. Alessio killed us with Hird in 96. Then yeah lost to Sydney in the Prelim. Unlucky.

That was the game where it was tied up from memory , and Plugger took a mark 100kays out and it was an any score to win the game after the siren kick and scored the point.

Then it was two years ago , the game against Geelong , where I was at work listening on the radio , Where I had the privalige of hearing a Rex Hunt call. I tipped the Swans in my bets at the TAB and they played a pathetic s****py game , I thought - no chance. Then a freak snap at goal in the dying seconds - can't remember who won them the game. Then the big unit from Geelong ( sorry I can't remember at this time , too much work) with tears streaming down his face. Geez , I felt for the Cats. But the Swans do have a habit of stealing games......

That's the one. I never liked Wrenstead. East Fremantle supporters treated him like a god.

we gave the kangaroos two flags, i will never get over that loss in 99 (kick the f***ing ball deano, when mercuri hit the post i needed a defribrillator) but what happened in 2000 somewhat makes up for it.

In 96 I believe the Kanga's deserved to win it and woulda beat anyone they played.
