Default Rules Are Too Hard On Defenders

The new hands in the back rule is ruining the game, and the interpretations that The Geish seems to have come up with are making life even harder for defenders. Watching the game today, it is clear that forwards are much better off than anyone else on the ground. They are protected endlessly, you can't touch your opponent from behind! It's very infuriating to watch, I can't even imagine what it muct be like for the full backs themselves.

Couldn't agree more. It's bloody pathetic. The umps are ruling hands in the back infrigement when it's nothing more than a good old hip and shoulder.

I don't think it's the rule ruining the game rather the different interpretations amongst the umpiring fraternity. For the Ump's association to rule mcveigh's marc legal and then the rules committee to deem it illegal show's we need to get both on a level footing. Also think that scragging needs to be addressed, have seen several times this year where players haven't had the ability to fairly beat their man so continually wear them like a glove even though they dont have the footy, ala Herritier O'Brien vs. Lucas on ANZAC day.

yeah.

i reckon they brought in the rule to boost the scoring in Aussies Rules, because the scoring has been going down over recent years.

most rules are introduced to increase scoring. The rule is harsh on defenders, but the better defenders will adapt accordingly. why would anyone try and take a chest mark anymore.......

The AFL keeps turning this game into Basketball/Gaelic/Soccer.

Any rules that prevent players from using the full force of their bodies, is kinda silly IMO. Like Basketball. There are huge bodied men, yet they're heavily regulated and restricted. But it's fine for basketball due to them playing on floor etc. But Aust Football has always been like an Ice Hockey on grass. Until the AFL got their hands on the code.

Pushing a player in the back in a marking contest was never what made AFL tough

After watching a whole season again of AFL soft-**** BS, I maintain my stance that the rules committee are killing the sport.
