Default Did anyone see Joel Selwood today?

That kid looks every part of a no.1 draft pick to me.

And i'm just bewildered at how he slipped down to no.7
Geelong must be laughing their heads off.
Let alone, Tom Hawkins could be worthy of a no.1 pick also.
If talkingfootball still has records from last year, i did say i was hoping for Selwood to go to Essendon with pick no.2, and if you look closely in the 'Prediction Time Capsule' thread you'll see i chose him for the Rising Star (comparing him to Luke Ball) before today's appearance.
Well, he is sure thing for my dreamteam now, and i may even have the courage to start him (i was kind of planning to start Gibbs).

So what are your thoughts on Selwood?
Future captain? Brownlow?

He slipped down to 7 because he missed most of last year (including the U18 Championships I think) with knee injuries. Could be a similar story to Judd in the future.

yeah this Selwood boy is just a natural born footballer and is all class, i am very excited as a cats fan as we may as already stated have the 2 best kids from the draft in Hawkins and selwood, Selwood reminds me of Prismall who is in his 3rd year and looks a real star of the future bit Selwood is already the equal i believe and i am not one who like over-reacting to players esp Geelong players but we have hit gold with Selwood i believe.

I dont want to rain on the kids parade and I hope he does succeed in the game and become a champ but I think you are taking his performance out of context. The game was setup for Geelongs mids/forwards due to the clear ruck dominance so it has bolstered many of the stats uninforedly. Richmonds #1 mid rucked 45% of the game allowing not just Selwood but the entire Cats list to supersede expectations!

I agree.. little too early to be making bold statements. However.. each to their own. I can see what your talking about though Tippaz.. the boys got some pure talent. Thing is.. you never know with football, injury pending.. yep, he will be a fantastic player in the future.

he has some talent but he has some faults to. I seen him miss 3 relatively simple shots on goal in a 3 minute span at one stage. If I was a cat fan i'd be more happy about Kelly's return to form after a shocking '06

Very true. But all footballers do have their faults, and especially because he's a young lad he's going to make more of them. Looking at what he can potentially produce, it's good.

However, in the past.. we've seen other talents turn to hack..
