As an Essendon supporter I know Hawthorn well, so many great players all playing around the same time, giving us a whacking on a regular basis.

There are many fantastic players from Hawthorn over the years, but for me the ones who turned a game, or ripped the opposition apart were 3 stand outs.

Dermie was sensational, Mathews the best ever player, and Dunstall was a powerhouse who never missed a goal.

When we played Hawthorn I used to fear Dermie the most, swaggering and taunting, teasing and generally being a pain in the .... to the opposition, yet he was fearless, he was the perfect player for his position and in my mind every bit as good as Carey but with more mongrel.

Yet despite the tough play, he was a clean and fair player who just loved the game full on, he had a great sense of humor. He used to kick a goal and face the opposition crowd and swagger or laugh.

To this day Dermi would be my first pick in any team and my favorite to watch play.

Now the Hawks are coming again, take it easy on our guys, just make sure you beat Collingwood.

Johnny Platten, Leigh Matthews were sensational players, John's PLattens hair just made him a star anyway, only watched the Hawks glory days on DVD, but they had champion teams throughout the 80's. Dermott Brereton was a champion, the 1989 was one of the most brave performances i have ever seen in AFL football. When he had a couple of broken ribs, one minute later he marked strongly and kicked a good goal. So many many more.

Great Post mate.
