Bu5t3r - you've absolutely hit the nail on the head.
I totally approve of the theory. There is a better strike rate with the cheaper centres.

I've finally come to my rd1 team. (only $800 leftover)

B - Gilbee, Johncock, C.Jones, McPhee, A.Walker, Birchall, Koschitzke, [Ellis, Frawley]

C - Hodge, Wells, Ball, Deledio, M.Murphy, Pendlebury, [Selwood, Thomas]

R - Cox, Hudson, [Ryder, Renouf]

F - Hall(c), Pavlich, Ablett jr, Lynch, Monfries, N.G.Brown, Franklin, [Edwards, Campbell]

That's it. I don't want to make any more changes (apart from maybe a few reserves). I am strong in 'backs' and 'forwards'. Light in 'centres' and 'rucks'.
My biggest fear is Ben Hudson (and my reserve situation). As it stands, i couldn't afford C.Cloke so i opted for Ryder (after promising myself to select the reserves FIRST...), but it needed to be done to get Johncock in the team (gulp!!!). I think Ryder will probably play most games, Renouf a handful. I am counting on Hudson to last the first 6 rds. That's all he has to do! The other area that took a cut was Alwyn Davey for Matt Campbell (saving an important $6,800). I'm happy to do that, because Campbell looks like a very good player.
Don't have any BRL or PTA players - and for some strange reason, that has always bugged me (as i like to own at least 1 player from each team). On the flip side of that, i currently own 5 KAN and 5 HAW players (oh-no!). Albeit, most of them are reserves, but i hate having too many players from the one team. I think i'll leave things the way they are because they are just reserves - and very good reserves at that!
My initial thoughts on Pendlebury were, "he'll need an upgrade". But then it hit me - he is my idea of the next Jobe Watson! I have identified him as a potential ruck-rover or centremen for Collingwood this year, and his 29 possession haul in the NAB Cup was no fluke. I think he is a chance to soar, so i'm going to take a punt on him.
I believe all my players are underpriced and capable of improvement, except Barry Hall - he will captain. My 10 most expensive players have excellent dt history, and are quite trustworthy at fulfilling 22 games.
In general, i have avoided the extreme top-price players, which has allowed me to buy some extra middle-tier players. The reason behind this - it might save 1 or 2 trades down the track.

I look forward to the season ahead.
Good luck all.

Tippaz, no there isnt. Why won't you even listen to me? Pendlebury is a magnet but not a good ball user. You still won't listen

I agree that he looks like a very good player but he's on the rookie list. However he might be elevated to the senior list due to the injury to Nathan Thompson if Laidley decides to replace a tall with a small.

Tippaz I have 2 problems with your teams.

1) Rucks. Huddo is a premier ruck but is coming off a yearlong spell due to injury and may take ime to find his feet so could score low first couple of weeks. Ryder wont play alot this year unless Laycock gets injured probably 8-10 games. Renouf is Hawthorns 4th string ruckman behind Campbell, Taylor and Bailey in that order!
2) Hodge isnt worth his price. When you compare his score to players at a similar price last year he is way overvalued. For just an extra 30K you can have Cousins who averaged 20pts per game higher than Hodge and you obviously have that money spare. Hodge also is unlikely to improve to much given hes been playing at the elite level for a good 2 years now!

Ali, Huddo won't take long to find his feet, he's played every preseason game and played about 6 or more SANFL games last year (crows didnt progress to GF so he wasn't needed as cover for biglands) so he is more than right.

I'm not worried about Hudson scoring big points. He is only a short-term option in my team. I am counting on him to play roughly the first 6 games. That's all he has to do!

Max Bailey did his knee a few months ago and is out for the entire season. Renouf is the no.3 ruckman.

Don't underestimate Luke Hodge. His price belongs right at the top. In 2005, he has a Judd-like season. I wouldn't go by last year's averages with him. My latest concern is that he has been reported (twice) in a practise match against Essendon. If he gets off, he is an automatic selection for me.

Kangaroos already had Leigh Harding on the sidelines (and now Thompson). Matty Campbell is a certainty for senior listing now. He could easily play 22 games (barring injury).
