Default Where to now for the Demons?

Would like some opinions on Melbourne and what has to happen to that club in terms of being a competetive and a successfull club in the near future?.
The reason i ask is that i have a soft spot for Melbourne and the Tigers and would like to see them rebuild and do well .
I know the club has a new coach ect but how long will it be,are some players lacking the intensity to play for the club or does the whole playing group need a revamp?.

Let the system take its course! Here is a post I found on a chat forum in regards to our most logical plan.

Quote:
Just highlighting some interesting similarities between Melbourne and Hawthorn during the past few years.

During the 2004 pre-season Hawthorn coach Peter Schwab declared that the Hawks would be aiming to win the premiership - Hawks managed just 4 wins and mid-season coach Peter Schwab was sacked.

During the 2007 pre-season Neil Daniher declared the Dees will be aiming for top 4 finish – Dees managed just 5 wins and mid-season coach Neil Daniher was sacked/resigned.

Port Adelaide assintant coach Alastair Clarkson was appointed coach before the conclusion of the 2004 season and delisted players who were either underperforming or not fitting in with his policy to rebuild the club.

Port Adelaide assintant coach Dean Bailey was appointed coach before the conclusion of the 2007 season and delisted players who were either underperforming or not fitting in with his policy to rebuild the club.

During Clarkson’s first year he instituted a culture of discipline at the club. The Hawks won only 5 games and played a widely criticized high-possession game plan and finished in 14th position. Average losing margin was 6 goals including a 117 point loss.

So far during Baileys first year he has instituted a culture of discipline at the club and so far his game plan and the performance of the team has been widely criticized.

At the end of Clarkson’s first year the Hawks were busy in the off-season, trading players for draft picks. The Hawks ended Trade Week with 5 top 20 draft picks.

I suspect this is what Melbourne and Dean Bailey will be hoping to do at the end of this year.

In clarksons's 2nd year (2006) Hawthorn ended 11th with 9 wins.

In Clarksons' 3rd year (2007) - Hawthorn ended 5th with 13 wins.

And you believe this to be the path your club is heading TF?.

LET THE SYSTEM TAKE ITS COURSE-What system?.
Melbourne have not had a system for years(if they have it has worked,NOT) and why would they start one now or say they have one in place now.Is it because of the new coach and his game plan or is it the players who will suddenly snap out of their coma-state and start playing real AFL football.(I dont think so,imo most of that passion went with the X COACH)

Watching the game and the angry supporters who met the players coming off the ground after the game ,it seems to me that Demon fans have had enough and want REAL answers not **** logical plan from a HOPE AND MISS perspective.

There is a place called the Cellar. It's cold, it's dark and the Demons will be there.

This team would struggle to beat a WAFL, VFL, SANFL or a NT side. Where are the midfield or defenders?

I think they will creep up and win 2 - 3 games this year but best to tip against them all year. Hopefully they will win their games against the Dockers...Now that would be something

Do the Demons have Supporters? For years I have seen them play and hardly get a crowd in at the G. Unless they are flying like in 2000, the only supporters that go to their games are the true ones....Well done you 1000 true supporters whoever you are.

PS: their CEO - she was quite a looker - like the team

Sadly its not a path I want to take. However, the system is cyclic. The point is people have very short memories ... 4 years ago people where saying exactly the same things about the Hawks.

Coach (Clarkson) is no good ... Hawks are financial basket cases ... the high possession game plan is all wrong ... they got no members etc etc etc

Now look where they are today.

You cant blame the current Melbourne coaching staff ... they inherited this list. I'm 100% convinced we can make the necessary change to our list at the end of the season.

Angry emotional supporters dont help ... passion always gets in the way of clear thinking. What the Melbourne football club needs is a clear logical plan or what I prefer to call the Hawthorn model.

Well they aren't going anywhere this season thats for sure. They better get used to the bottom becuase thats where they are staying, no doubt about it. Their team is too old with players such as Bruce, Neitz, Yze and Robertson a thing of the past.
