Default Melbourne Cup '08

Lets have some early tips for this year's Melbourne Cup.

I think the winner will be out of Effecient or Zagreb so to go for a little bit of value, I'll go with Zagreb as my early selection.

Who do you fancy?

I remember backing Effecient when it won the Derby and ended up having huge money on an all up in a later race with a horse called Testbury Jack.

Sadly for me Testbury went to the inside all other horses went to the "better side" of the track and it never won. However, I did decalre in my opinion Effecient the best stayer in the land.

When Efficient ran in last years cup I had gone cold because I was very, very keen on a horse in a later race.

Now that all said and done. IMHO Effecient is still the best stayer in the land. However, its all about the price ... for this reason I will be keeping a very close on the other Llyod Williams horse Zipping. I just feel this is the year you could get 20's if all goes well.

I had my money on Zipping in last years Melbourne Cup but I was very disappointed by the way it raced. I am expecting a lot more from it this year but I have read an article on Sportal that said that history has told us that horses 7yo and over have very little chance in Caulfields but I don't know how they go in Melb Cups.

Yeah, Efficient is clearly the best stayer in Australia, his biggest threat may come from the international Horses. Zipping is a good horse but he just struggles to stay the 3200 so i wouldn't be backing him to win, but he could sneak a place. If you are looking for a smokey for the Melbourne Cup, there's a horse called 'Dolphin Jo' who is a very capable stayer. Dolphin Jo finished an unlucky 5th in last years Melbourne Cup but he was held-up for a run, so he should have finished a lot closer. He likes a bit a give in the ground so if there is any rain about it will improve his chances, and he could be worth an each-way bet at big odds, i think his odds are currently about 30/1. The Caulfield Cup is usually a good guide for the Melbourne Cup so we will have a clearer picture on the Melbourne Cup chances next week.

zipping ran fourth in the melb cup a couple of years ago behind the two jap horses and maybe better, and it was from one of the widest barriers so he's more than capable. most of my money will be going on septimus if he makes the trip over here.

Well after the Caulfield Cup its looking increasingly likely that the Melbourne Cup will be going overseas this year, Mad Rush dserves to be favourite after his slashing 4th in the Caulfield Cup. Efficient looks to be the only hope for Australia.

My tip is now Effecient. He has been training well from all reports and is coming into this race ultra fresh. Should run a big race.

Mad Rush is another one that will be around the mark. Coming from overseas, I wasn't convinced it'd dominate here like some were saying but he ran a really nice race in the Caufield Cup, a slashing 4th.

Master O'Reilly is backing up from the Caufield Cup to race tomorrow in the Cox Plate so I'm not too sure the Melbourne Cup is their aim, but that remains to be seen.

my tip is number 17 what ever the horses name is and I don't care what barrier he or she comes out of.
But I will be putting money on Number 17.
So I will have to wait to the draw to see what I have got.

I've just heard the bad news, Efficient has a leg injury and he will miss the Melbourne Cup. It's a real shame because Efficient was Australia's best hope in the race.

No disrespect here but calling a horse missing the cup as bad news is a little over the top in my book.
I fail to see just what horse racing has go so many people hooked on it.
Just me I spos.
But Like I said I mean no disrespect to you on this.
