I beleive Sam McGarry is still in the Sandringham side (He can still be elevated possibly).
What I'm most pleased about is the addition of Brett Peake, who gives us another dasher out of the backline (So we have Gilbert, Goddard, Fisher, and now Peake)...hopefully this translates to some heavy scoring.

I was hoping he could be the mid sized dashing half-forward/wingman but I guess he would be accustomed to the half-backline which would allow Gram/Goddard to have more of a roam in the midfield.

True, but I think (and prefer) Goddard to be that dashing half-forwad/wingman, and occasionally drop into the backline. We've seen Goddard play up forward and we know he can kick goals.

I know Ross Lyon said Kosi would be used in the ruck a little more , but, Kosi himself prefers playing forward. Why?
I think he does not work hard enough. When he pushes down the ground and is forced to be involved more he seems to spark up and show some energy. I would like to see him played as tall wingman and ruckman who can provide a long kick target for our full backs and have a bit of freedom moving around. Kosi is also a beautiful kick of the ball and could deliver it nicely forward. This strategy could throw a spanner in the opposition teams structure a bit as due to his very occasional brillaince Kosi is worthy of a decent opposiotoin marker. This would allow us to see Mcevoy used forward and in the ruck giving him confidence game time and also the chance to develop his field skills. |

I think the idea of bringing Kosi into the midfield could be a good option but where does that leave Gardiner/King? And if you want McEvoy in there aswell that is 4 tall ruckman sized players in the side + Riewoldt... I think McEvoy is yet to develop and is still another year away. I think his role as the backup ruckman behind King/Gardiner is all he is capable of at the moment. Until one of them retires I don't see any space for him as both King and Gardiner both showed that they have at least one more year each and most likely more in Gardiners case if his body holds up. As for Kosi, he will definitely be played around the ground a bit more this year as Goddards move forward could free him up a little more.

We need to keep Koschitzke in the forward line. He's our most accurate goal kicker. Riewoldt / Koschitzke combo is fine with me, I like it. The whole forward line itself isn't really the problem...infact, there arent too many problems, haha. However we need more pace out of the backline to set up those twin towers....reason why we got Peake & Lovett (although he's gone now).

I think King will retire before seasons end. ( Due to not gettting match time) Gut feeling.
I think that gardiner was far better last year than king and that from what we saw of Mcevoy he was close to on par with Kings efforts. The diffrerence between the two is that King has alot of experience and did a reliably ok job. Mcevoy showed speed, good marking ability and enthusiasm whenever he played. He just needs to improve his decision making and disposal. Like Zac Dawson, if Mcevoy can get game time each match, by mid season he will be finals ready. No need to wait another year on this bloke, he is the next Cox. (3rd in recent 3 k time trial and body starting to develop) I just think King is not versatile enough to play the part that RLyon would like our rucks to play. Think back to the Geelong game and Mg, brilliant. WE need that from our secondary ruckman and King is not the man to do it. |
